NEW DETAILS ON ESCAPEE FROM BOND COUNTY

A few new details have been released by the Bond County Sheriff's Department regarding 21-year-old Anthony White's capture.  As reported earlier by WGEL, a week after his escape from the Bond County Jail, White was captured in Kentucky.

Authorities believed for several days that White was in Kentucky because while in jail he made several calls to Shelby County, KY, according to Bond County Patrol Officer Doug Lawrence. Lawrence said that the car he allegedly stole was found abandoned in a driveway of a vacant house in Owensboro, KY. The owner of the home had the vehicle towed.  The tow company then contacted police who told the company that the vehicle was stolen. White was found near Louisville, and according to Lawrence did not put up a fight when he was arrested.

Lawrence noted that the correctional officer's uniform, badge and gun-belt were found in the vehicle. 

The U.S. Marshall's and Kentucky authorities are currently involved and the Illinois Department of Corrections is currently making plans to extradite White back to Bond County, but he must first appear before a judge in Kentucky.

White escaped from the Bond County Jail late on the night of June 24.  He fled from Greenville in a car allegedly stolen from the Helen Ferguson residence.  WGEL will have more details on this story as they become available. 

 

SHOTS FIRED AT ROYAL LAKE HOME

The Bond County Sheriff's Department is searching for someone who fired shots Saturday night at a Royal Lake home.  The incident happened around 8PM when, according to residents, a vehicle drove past the house on Wisconsin Street and an occupant fired several shots.  No one was injured.  Deputies recovered one bullet inside the home and several brass casings in the front yard.  The Sheriff's Department has suspects in the case.

FIRST INSTALLMENT OF PROPERTY TAXES DUE TODAY

The first installment payment for Bond County property taxes is due today (Monday.)  Besides making payments at the treasurer's office, you can make payments at all banks throughout Bond County except for Midland States Bank in Greenville. Your payment can also be mailed with the proper tax statement coupon included. The second installment of taxes is due on September 8.

LEIDNER PROBATION RESCENDED AFTER GUILTY PLEA TO NEW CHARGE

On June 6th Kevin F. Leidner, age 33 of Greenville, pled guilty in Bond County Court to criminal damage to property and received a sentence of 90 days imprisonment. At the time of the offense Mr. Leidner was on probation for two previous Domestic Battery Offenses as well as Unlawful Violation of An Order of Protection. Because of the new offense, probation was revoked.  Mr. Leidner is now to serve two years for each of the three previous offenses in the Department of Corrections, as well as the new 90 days.   The sentences are to run concurrently with credit for time served.

CANOPY DAMAGED IN ACCIDENT

A canopy pillar at the Greenville CC Food Mart on Route 127 was damaged Saturday evening when it was struck by a vehicle.  City police report that the driver's foot slipped off the brake and the car hit the pillar.  Damage was over $500.  The driver was not injured.
