Matt Oglesby and Brian Ulmer emerged as the winners Friday night at the Bond County Fair Demo Derby.  There were seven entries in the truck division which saw Ulmer place first followed by Kevin Wernle of Greenville, 2nd; J.R. Stewart of Greenville, 3rd; and Chris Kehrer of New Memphis, 4th.  Forty-nine cars competed in the demo with Oglesby taking the first place trophy followed by Paul Neely of Greenville, 2nd place; John Ripperda of Bartelso, 3rd place; and Clinton Staff of Greenville, 4th place.  By the time the last car was running it was nearly midnight and fans were treated to some hard hits including one that tipped a car over.  The driver was not injured.  There will be a fall demo derby October 21 on the fairgrounds featuring older models and compact cars.

GREENVILLE COLLEGE ENROLLMENT HIGHER THAN LAST YEAR

For the first time in recent history, the Admissions staff at Greenville College is telling new freshman that they will be on a waiting list until housing opens up.  With enrollment up more than 100 students from last year, Greenville College President Jim Mannoia said they are inviting more upper division students to find housing in the community and rent just like anyone else.  Generally the college likes to have all students on campus, but at the moment it is the only way to accommodate incoming students.  Therefore, a new residence hall is in the works with construction possibly beginning in the next week.  The hope is to have it ready for the August 2007 enrollment.  With a couple of locations in mind, the site of the new dorm will likely be on the south end of the parking lot located just west of the Snyder Science Hall.  It will contain 100 beds for students. We'll have more with Greenville College President Mannoia about the construction of the new dorm in a upcoming news cast.
