SEPTEMBER UNEMPLOYEMENT RATES
Illinois employers of the St. Louis Metropolitan Statistical Area added 700 jobs to their payrolls, over the year, while the labor force expanded by more than 10,000. All Illinois counties in the metro area have higher unemployment rates than the previous year. September unemployment rates for local counties are as follows: Bond 4.9%, an increase of 1.2% from last September; Clinton 4.3%, an increase of .6%; Madison 5.3%, an increase of 1.1%; and St. Clair 6%, an increase of 1%. Industrial sectors that have shown strong annual growth for the Metro East area, include Information, Wholesale Trade, Financial Activities, and Educational and Health Services.
SIUE GETS GRANT
Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville is getting a major grant. According to Metro News Source, the more than $2 million grant comes from the U.S. Department of Health and Senior Services. The funds will be used for SIUE's Head Start Early Education Program in East St. Louis.
