STEPHENS SAYS FUTUREGEN MEANS JOBS FOR DOWNSTATE ILLINOIS

 

"The announcement Tuesday, that FutureGen is coming to central Illinois is wonderful news for the entire region and will create good-paying jobs and provide a boost to Illinois' coal industry," said State Representative Ron Stephens.

 

Mattoon was chosen as the location for the $1.8 billion dollar power plant.  The project is expected to create 1300 construction jobs, 150 permanent jobs at the plant, and 1225 additional jobs in the area.  The 275-megawatt prototype power plant should be operating by 2012.

BUSINESS INCUBATOR

 

Several local projects will receive funding from the federal government's omnibus appropriations bill passed by the Senate and House and expected to be signed by the President.

 

The City of Greenville will get $147,000 to start a small business incubator, and the Fayette County Sheriff's Office gets $211,500 to upgrade their communications system and dispatch center. Also the bill has $75 million for the FutureGen project in Mattoon.

UNIT 2 OFFICE CLOSED FOR HOLIDAYS

 

The Bond County Unit No. 2 Unit Office will be closed Monday and Tuesday, December 24th & 25th and also December 31st & January 1st.  The office will reopen on Wednesday, January 2nd.

 

CHRISTMAS BREAK ANNOUNCED FOR SOME AREA SCHOOLS

 

Laura Benhoff, Principal for the New Approach, Aspire Alternative High School, FOCUS & TriStar Safe Schools Programs, has announced the dates for Christmas break for these schools. There will be no school at these centers on Monday, December 24th - Friday, January 4, 2008.  School will resume on Monday, January 7, 2008.

SHERIFF’S NOVEMBER & ANNUAL REPORTS

 

For the month of November 2007, the Bond County Sheriff’s department received $2,212.50 in fees.  The total amount paid to the Bond County Treasurer for this month was $7,724.99.

 

According to the Sheriff’s Annual Report from December 1, 2006 through November 30, 2007, the office received $29,492.38 in fees.  The total annual amount paid to the Bond County Treasurer was $104,366.34.

SAFETY TIPS FOR CHILDREN IN CHAT ROOMS 

 

During the holiday vacation, children have much more free time and many will spend a lot more time on-line.  Parents should be aware of who their kids are chatting with and beware of online predators.  Children should follow the following safety tips for social networking and chat room sites.

 

- Never give out personal information, plan to meet with someone you met online, or send pictures of yourself without a parent’s permission.

 

- Set your social network profile to private to avoid unwelcome members.

 

- Pick usernames that do not include personal information.

 

- And don’t do or say anything online you wouldn’t do or say offline.

The Mulberry Grove Aces Varsity Basketball team lost to Odin on Thursday.  Final score was 62-48, Jason Clanton lead the Aces with 17 points.   

OBITUARIES

DANIE W. "DANNY" BRYAN

 

Daniel W. "Danny" Bryan age 59 of Greenville passed away Wednesday at Greenville Regional Hospital.  Funeral services for 59 year-old Danny Bryan will be at 11am Saturday the 22nd at the Bauer Funeral home in Effingham.  Visitation will be 4-7PM Friday at the Bauer Funeral Home.  Burial will be in Memorial Park West Effingham with military honors.  Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice. 

JOHN KUCERA

 

John Kucera 65 of Pocahontas passed away Monday the 17th.  Private Memorial services will be held Saturday in Redbud Illinois.  In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Family for 65 year-old John Kucera.  The Kurrus funeral home in Belleville is in charge of arrangements. 

LUCILLE N. HURST

 

66 year-old Lucille N. Hurst of Alhambra passed away Friday the 21st at Alhambra Care Center.  Funeral services for Lucille N. Hurst will be held at 11am on Sunday December 23rd at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville.  Friends may call Saturday from 4-8PM at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville.  Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society.
