WOMAN REMAINS IN SERIOUS CONDITION AFTER JUMP FROM SEMI

The Illinois State Police have released details on the alleged attempted suicide on I-70 near Greenville last Thursday. Phyllis Orozco was the passenger in the front seat of a semi driven by her husband, Miquel Orozco. According to the husband, Phyllis Orozco opened the passenger door as if to jump. Her husband managed to slow the truck to around 35 miles an hour. She jumped suffering multiple injuries and was Arched to St. Louis University Hospital. Miquel Orozco told police that his wife was suffering from depression and had not taken her medication and was also drinking alcohol. After an inspection of the truck it was taken out of service due to alcohol allegedly being found in the truck.


TRAFFIC BACK UP ON I-70 FRIDAY

A report of a fuel leak from a semi, prompted a wash down by the Pocahontas Old Ripley Fire Department Friday afternoon around 2:20PM on I-70 WB MP 39. Traffic was backed up for 3-4 miles for the majority of the afternoon, with only one lane open. Firefighters were on scene for nearly 2-1/2 hours.


"THE BISHOP" ARRESTED BY FEDERAL AGENTS

Last week a Dubuque Iowa man was arrested by Federal agents, led by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, for allegedly mailing two partially disconnected pipe bombs from a Chicago suburb to investment firms in Denver and Kansas City. John P. Tomkins has been allegedly linked to a series of more than a dozen threatening letters to investment centers over the past two years. Earlier threats were signed "The Bishop". Tomkins was charged with alleged mailing a threatening communication with intent to extort and alleged possession of an unregistered destructive device. If convicted, Tomkins could face up to 30 years in prison.


MABRY'S OPENING MAY 1ST

After sitting empty for over a year, a building will see a new business opening up in Greenville on Tuesday, May 1st. Mike Mabry, the owner of Mabry's says they will open every morning at 6Am and close at 9:30PM. There has been a buffet added that will be open for lunch every day. People should be able to come in, tell their server they want the buffet and start eating, according to Mabry. The lounge will be revamped as well, with Mabry wanting to keep the atmosphere low key. He is a fan of acoustic performances and promises to have small bands providing entertainment for lounge goers. The restaurant will close at 9:30PM with the lounge staying open later. Mabry's opens today for business.


ILLINOIS STATE FAIR ANNOUNCES SCHEDULE

Organizers hope this year's state fair in Springfield will bring in more first time visitors. According to Metro News Source, fair manager, Amy Bliefnick, says the fair's theme "Celebrate and Educate" will work to teach people about the state's history while having fun. She hopes the theme will attract people from all parts of the state. Bliefnick says the price of tickets is also a draw for families. This year adults will pay three-dollars to get in while kids 12 and under are free. This year's grandstand musicians have also been named. Country group Sugarland, former American Idol contestant Chris Daughtry, and Illinois native Gretchen Wilson will take the stage. The fair will take place from August 10th to the 19th.

MJ's SON EXPECTED TO ATTEND UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS

Michael Jordan's son has reportedly made his choice of where he will play college ball. The "Chicago Tribune" is reporting that Jeff Jordan is expected to announce that he will attend the University of Illinois as a walk-on. He also plans to enroll for the summer session. Jeff Jordan played his high school career at Wilmette's Loyola Academy as a three-year starter and averaged 15 points a game. He recently turned down scholarships to Valparaiso and Loyola University

David M. Rommerskirchen, age 68 of Pocahontas, passed away Saturday evening at his residence. Funeral Services for David Rommerskirchen will be held Thursday at 11AM at the First United Methodist Church in Pocahontas. Interment will be in Robinson Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5 to 9 PM at May Funeral Home in Pocahontas, and also Thursday from 10 to 11AM at the church. Memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.

Doris Bastian Swanson, age 91 of Greenville, passed away Monday, April 30, at Fair Oaks. Funeral arrangements for 91 -year-old Doris Bastian Swanson are pending at this time at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville.

Sarah Jane Chadwell Krause, age 81 of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away Monday, April 30 in Jacksonville, Florida. Funeral arrangements for 81 -year-old Sarah Jane Chadwell Krause are pending at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. Sarah Krause is the Aunt of Nancy Ambuehl of Greenville.

VIRGINIA "JENNY" HUNTINGTON

Virginia "Jenny" Huntington, age 67 of Vandalia, passed away Saturday, April 28th at St. Louis University Hospital. She was the sister of Neta Heflin of Keyesport, Jerry Prater of Donnellson, and John Prater of Greenville. Graveside services for 67 -year-old Virginia "Jenny" Huntington will be at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the family.
