ACCIDENT WITH INJURIES IN POCAHONTAS

Bond County Officers, Pocahontas-Old Ripley EMS and Pocahontas-Old Ripley Firemen were called to a single vehicle accident, early Sunday morning, at 2:05 am, at Johnson and State Streets, in Pocahontas.  Greg Ripperda, age 33, of Pocahontas, was northeast bound on State Street in Pocahontas, when a deer reportedly ran in front of his 1998 Oldsmobile.  Ripperda steered to miss the deer, and his vehicle left the roadway, hitting a dirt embankment, flipping over and rolling along the embankment, coming to rest on its top.  Pocahontas-Old Ripley EMS transported Ripperda to Greenville Regional Hospital for treatment.  Ripperda was cited for alleged failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, alleged DUI, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

SCHOOLS TO BE SELECTED FOR STATE'S NEW TEEN DRIVING PROGRAM

There are nearly 225 Illinois High Schools that have signed up to participate in the Operation Teen Safe Driving Initiative. Under the new program, schools around the state will be encouraged to identify the major teen traffic safety problems in their communities and propose creative solutions.

Judging for the entries is taking place and the 101 selected schools will be notified sometime this month.  Selection, of the schools to participate, will be based on the effectiveness of identifying a problem, creating a proposal to address the problem and the program's ability to reach teens and the entire community.
