OPENING DAY SET FOR GREENVILLE REGIONAL HOSPITAL AUXILLARY THRIFT SHOP

 

We spoke with Alan Gaffner with the Greenville Regional Hospital Auxillary, who told WGEL that the Auxillary Thrift Shop should be open in its’ new location, in the old Super Valu building, this Saturday.  Gaffner also said there is still a chance the thrift shop could be open on Friday, pending the outcome of a late Thursday afternoon inspection.  If the Thrift shop does open on Friday we’ll have the information for you as soon as it’s available. 


SEPTEMBER RAIN TOTALS HIGHEST IN PAST 15 YEARS

 

September rain totals for Greenville are the highest in the past 15 years.  7.07 inches of rain were recorded at the Sewer Plant, 6.75 inches at 6th Street, and 6.24 inches at Idler Lane and Rt. 140.  This is the most rain since 1993 when 8.36 inches were recorded in Greenville. 


MULBERRY GROVE TEACHER WINS TEACHER OF THE YEAR

 

Third Grade Teacher Becky Criner, at Mulberry Grove Elementary School, was surprised this week with a special recognition from the school. Students were asked to vote for their favorite teacher and Criner came away with the most votes. Criner was awarded Teacher of the Year, along with $1000 to the Mulberry Grove School and $100 for her classroom. Criner was surprised with the award in the Mulberry Grove Auditorium, filled with enthusiastic staff and students, balloons, and flowers. The contest was sponsored by a national retailer. 


VICE-PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE

 

The nation's eyes will be on St. Louis tonight for the vice-presidential debate.  Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin and Democratic vice-presidential candidate Joe Biden will square off at Washington University.  Final preparations to transform the university's gymnasium into a debate stage took place yesterday afternoon. The debate will be aired on all major networks tonight at 8:00 PM.

The Lady Comets shot a team 253 for third place at a match in Greenville on Wednesday; Jessica Grigg was the low scorer with a 57.

 

The Comets team took second place to Highland from a match earlier this week.  The team shot a combined 202, and Hoffmeier was the low scorer with a 44.
