VOTING IN BOND COUNTY

 

This election will bring a number of new items to the ballot in Bond County

 

The ballot's first question pertains to the constitutional convention. The questions asks to answer YES or NO for the calling of a constitutional convention in the state of Illinois.

 

 In other contested races, for United States Senator, Democrat Richard Durbin and Republican Steve Sauerberg are on the ballot. Candidates for congress in the nineteenth Congressional District are Democrat Daniel Davis, Republican John Shimkus, and from the Green Party Troy Dennis. 

 

On the ballot for Coroner, Democratic Candidate Alan Young and Republican Candidate John Donnell. Running for a seat on the Bond County Board in District 4 are Democratic Candidate Kevin Sybert and Republican Jack Langel. 

 

The Liquor Proposition will be on the ballot. The question states, "Shall the prohibition of the sale at retail of alcoholic liquor be continued in the City of Greenville?" Vote YES if you want to keep alcohol banned and vote NO if you want the ban to end and alcohol to be legally sold in Greenville.  

 

Election Day is November 4th. Get out and VOTE!

MIDAMERICA AIRPORT WELCOMES FIRST WEEKLY SHIPMENT OF FLOWERS

 

MidAmerica Airport near Mascoutah, IL is the destination of the first weekly shipment of flowers from Bogota, Columbia.  The first shipment arrived last week.  The intercontinental flight from Bogota will arrive direct every Thursday carrying as much as 70 tons of fresh flowers imported from Colombia and Ecuador.  From there, a wholesale floral distributor will make timely shipments to 40% of the United States market for perishables.

 

Once unloaded, the planes will be filled with products from the Midwest and flown to Miami International Airport for transfer to Central and South American markets where there is a strong demand for tractors, food processing and other industrial goods.  The weekly flights from Bogota are expected to grow to two per week by the end of the year and three per week by Valentine's Day 2009.

BANK RIBBON CUTTING

 

The Greenville Chamber of Commerce delivered the ribbon for cutting at the Grand opening of the First National Bank in Greenville Friday morning. In September, the First National Banks in Mulberry Grove and Greenville became part of the First National Bank of Vandalia, Ramsey and Patoka. Friday morning's ceremony celebrated the locations in Mulberry Grove and on Route 40 in Greenville as part of the First National banking family. The First National Bank, now with facilities in Vandalia, Ramsey, Patoka, Mulberry Grove and Greenville.

LOCAL FIREFIGHTERS BUSY OVERNIGHT

 

Pocahontas-Old Ripley Firefighters were called to Interstate - 70 between Greenville and Pocahontas to the report of a van on fire at 5:21 Friday afternoon. According to State Police, no one was injured but several witnesses reported traffic in the eastbound lane was congested for about an hour and the van was totally charred.

 

At 7:09 Friday evening, Mulberry Firefighters were called to Dunkard Lane to a combine fire.


COMETS PLAYOFF SCORE

 

The Greenville High School Comets took a quick 21-0 lead and cruised to a 35-3 victory over Carlinville Saturday afternoon at Highland in the Illinois High School Association football playoffs. Next, they will take on Vandalia at Edwardsville at 1PM on Saturday. Vandalia defeated Flora 35-12 Friday. The Comets undefeated record improves to 10-0 for this season. You can hear the Comets on WGEL Radio this Saturday at 1PM as they take on Vandalia at Edwardsville.

OBITUARIES

RICHARD D HOFFMANN

 

82 yr old Richard D. Hoffmann of rural Keyesport passed away Thursday at Fair Oaks. Funeral services for Richard D. Hoffmann will be 10am Tuesday at the Campground Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Burial will follow in Campground Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4PM until 8PM at Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville.


FERN CUSICK

 

92 yr old Fern Cusick of Greenville passed away Friday at Cardinal Hill Healthcare in Greenville. Funeral services for Fern Cusick will be 1PM Tuesday at Young Funeral Home in Greenville. Internment will follow in Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Visitation  will be Tuesday from noon until 1PM at Young Funeral Home in Greenville.
