CAR FIRE DAMAGES HOME

 

Smithboro Firemen were paged Wednesday afternoon, to a report of a car fire at a home on 18th Road, at the western edge of Pleasant Mound.  According to Fire Chief Dale Deverick, the car belonged to Carl and Kacie Mathewson of rural Greenville, and was parked at the home of Mary Ann Bloemker.  Deverick said the cause of the blaze is still undetermined but damage to the car was extensive.  The siding and electric meter, on the house, were also damaged.  Firemen were on the scene for over an hour and waited until Ameren IP arrived to check on the extent of the damage to the electric meter.  No injuries resulted from the fire.


PUBLIC HEARING TO APPROVE PROPERTY TAX LEVY

 

A public hearing, to approve a proposed property tax levy increase for Kingsbury Park District, will be held December 8, at 6:30 PM at the Greenville Municipal Building.  Anyone desiring to appear at the public hearing and present testimony to the taxing district may contact Director Jerry Sauerwein. 



 

CARLYLE GOLF COURSE CLUBHOUSE BURNS DOWN

 

Carlyle firefighters responded to a fire last Tuesday that destroyed the Carlyle Golf Course Clubhouse. According to Carlyle Fire Chief Jim Mahlandt, firefighters from Carlyle, Huey-Ferrin-Boulder, Beckemeyer-Wade and Wheatfield all responded.  The call came in just before 7:30 PM and according to Mahlandt, firefighters battled the blaze until 2:30 AM.  The clubhouse was completed destroyed. There is no information on how the fire started. The fire is still under investigation. Tentative plans to have the clubhouse reopened are set for March 2009.

GREENVILLE ATHLETE HONORED AFTER 30 YEARS

 

Greenville High School will honor one of it's greatest athletes Friday, December 12. The school will be unveiling new State Champion Banners, honoring Lisa Ferry, before the varsity basketball game. Lisa was a three-time state champion in the late 70's. Lisa will be in attendance for the unveiling.
