PENNY WARS RAISE MONEY FOR SCHOOL IN UGANDA
The Student Council, at Greenville High School, sponsored by Mrs. Theresa Dissen, has been raising money this year, through a variety of efforts and events, to aid in the construction of a school in Uganda. Earlier this year, students held a walk-a-thon, sold T-shirts, and contacted local churches for donations, to raise money for this project. Recently a penny war was held at the high school. As of last Friday (2/8/08), over $3000.00 has been raised just by the penny wars. In the competition at the high school, first place went to Mr. Thies's class with a total of $565.49, second was Ms. Ukena's class with $445.89, and third place went to Mr. Winter's class with $332.07.
Over $6000.00 has been raised to date, with more events to come. A Kiss-a-Pig contest is planned and also a benefit band concert. All funds raised will be sent, later this spring, to the "Invisible Children of Uganda" Program. Congratulations to the Student Council for sponsoring these events and to all the students and others involved in this most worthy project.
