ELECTION RESULTS
Barack Obama won the Illinois Democrat Primary onTuesday. Bond County gave Obama 919 votes to Hillary Clinton's 914.
Republicans gave John McCain a victory in Illinois. Bond County Republicans cast 603 votes for McCain, Mike Huckabee got 420 votes, Mitt Romney 381 and Ron Paul 114.
Statewide, Republicans gave Doctor Steve Sauerberg the nod to take on Senator Dick Durbin in the fall. Bond County voted Sauerberg 592 and Andy Martin 476.
Daniel Davis netted 751 Bond County votes over Joe McMenamin's 678, in their contest to take on Republican incumbent John Shimkus, and the rest of the 19th District went for Dan Davis over Joe McMenamin 40,415 to 27,437.
In the referendum to levy a special tax for the purpose of obtaining funds to pay for costs of emergency and rescue crews and equipment for the New Douglas Fire Protection District, Bond County and Madison County voters in that district voted 116 yes to 51 no. The New Douglas Fire Protection District will be getting the benefit of that tax increase. In Clinton County, for the third time, voters in the Germantown Grade School District turned down higher taxes to benefit the school. The final vote was 194 yes 462 no.
In the contested judge race in Bond County for the Democrat nominee for the Appellate Court Fifth Judicial District, it was Judy Cates 858 to James M. Wexsten's 790 votes. But with 96 percent of the vote in, from the 37 counties in the district, James Wexsten leads Judy Cates, 53 percent to 47 percent. It looks like James Wexsten will be the
Democrat competing for a seat on the Appellate Court Fifth Judicial District, in November.
Bond County Clerk Randy Reitz reports thirty one percent of Bond County voters cast votes in Tuesday's election.

FEBRUARY 6 POLICE REPORT
Pocahontas-Old Ripley Ambulance and Bond County Sheriff's Officers responded to a single vehicle accident, Tuesday evening, at 5:21 PM, on Academy Street in Pocahontas. Matthew Shawn Clark, age 19, of Springfield, was southbound on Academy Street, during a heavy rain, when his 2004 Ford rental truck hit water on the road. The truck hydroplaned off the road onto the shoulder and rolled onto the driver's side. Pocahontas-Old Ripley Ambulance took Clark to Greenville Regional Hospital for treatment.
Bond County Officers and Illinois State Police responded to five other single vehicle accidents, Tuesday evening, night, and early this morning, at various locations in Bond County and on I-70. Fortunately there were no injuries in these accidents.
