CITY COUNCIL APRIL MEETING

The Greenville City Council held their April meeting Tuesday night. Mayor Alan Gaffner missed his first City Council meeting since he first served on the Council, Tuesday night, due to a business meeting out of town and former Mayor and City Councilman Kelly Ireland, took his place.  The Council quickly moved through the agenda taking the City Manager's recommendation to purchase the Pureline Treatment system, after a 90-day lease and trial period, at a cost of 65 thousand dollars. According to City Manager Dave Willey, Pureline is working better than anticipated and the projection for savings on chemicals, to treat the city's water, will exceed 23 thousand dollars this year, plus complaints about the smell and taste of city water have declined.

In other action, the Council appointed Ryan Thomason to the City's Band Board, passed a Tourism Committee recommendation for funds for Agape, and decided to allow a beach and swimming area at Durley Camp.  They tabled a discussion on Council Security, discussed spending money to reactivate the park at the end of Idler lane on Governor Bond Lake, and talked about downtown parking, with the idea of increasing parking time from 90 minutes to 2 hours and increasing fines for repeat parking violators. You can see the entire open session of Tuesday nights meeting, at 6PM tonight, on Greenville Cable Channel 3.
