MOTORCYCLES CRASH DUE TO DEER

 

Bond County Sheriff's Officers responded to an accident Sunday evening involving two motorcycles.  David Vogler, age 45, and his wife Melody, age 43, of Breese, were westbound on Rt. 143 on two motorcycles when a deer ran in front of David.  He could not avoid hitting the deer and Melody crashed avoiding the deer and the other motorcycle.  Bond County EMS responded to the scene and according to the report, transported Melody to Greenville Regional Hospital for treatment.  David was taken to the hospital in a friend's car.


4TH STREET CLOSED IN GREENVILLE

 

4th Street in Greenville, North of the railroad tracks from Franklin Street to College Avenue, will be closed, due to repairs, Monday through Wednesday of this week.

RAIN TOTALS FOR MAY

 

May has been the wettest month for the local area so far this year.  According to the City of Greenville rain gauges, May saw a total of 10.54 inches of rain at the water treatment plant - 5 inches more than the ten-year average.  Nearly half the days in May saw some precipitation.  To date this year, over 30 inches of rain has fallen over Greenville.

 


NEW MISSISSIPPI RIVER BRIDGE SHOULD BE NAMED "VETERANS BRIDGE"

 

Representative Ron Stephens has submitted a resolution to name the new I-70 Mississippi River bridge, "Veterans Bridge.  The new bridge is to be constructed north of the existing Martin Luther King Bridge. "This bridge will be good for both Illinois and Missouri." Stephens said.  "Not only will it reduce traffic congestion on the existing bridges, but will also create many new jobs in both states.  Such a worthwhile project deserves a very honorable and worthwhile name, and what is more honorable than our brave soldiers and veterans.


CDL APPLICANTS MAY SCHEDULE EXAMS ONLINE

 

Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White announced recently that CDL applicants may now schedule pre-trip, skills, and road exams online at www.cyberdriveillinois.com.  This new "Illinois Fast Pass" program takes just a few minutes and appointments may be made at the facility of choice.  Appointments may still be made by phone at 217-785-3013




HIGHLAND BULLDOGS SEASON KEEPS GOING

 

The Highland Bulldogs baseball season keeps going.  With the Bulldogs 10-0 win over Mt. Zion in the Super Sectional, heard here on WGEL Radio, they advance to the state Semifinals in Joliet this Friday.  The game is at 10am and features the Bulldogs against Crystal Lake Central.  If Bulldogs win they will play for the state championship on Saturday at Noon.  The other two teams still in the hunt for the state title are Rock Falls and Joliet Catholic Academy.  You can hear the remaining games on WGEL Radio, again the Bulldogs next play Friday at 10AM.

SIMON M. BROWN

 

Simon M. Brown, age 80, of Greenville, passed away Monday at Fair Oaks Nursing Home.  Funeral services for 80 year-old Simon M. Brown will be Thursday at 1:00 PM at the First Christian Church.  Interment will be in Brown Cemetery with full military honors.  Friends may call after 4:00 PM Wednesday at the church.  Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church.


ERMAL HARNETIAUX

 

Ermal Harnetiaux age 81 of Greenville passed away Sunday at Fair Oaks Nursing Home.  Funeral services will be held at 11am Thursday at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville.  Interment will follow in Mt. Auburn Cemetery.  Friends may call Wednesday from 4-8 at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the Wisetown Baptist Church, Fair Oaks or the American Farm Heritage Museum.
