CITY OF HIGHLAND DOES NOT WANT PIPELINE UNDER SILVER LAKE
An oil pipeline may be placed under Silver Lake, the only water supply source for that area. We heard the City of Highland has major concerns about the underground pipeline, so we talked with Mark Latham from the Highland City Hall to get the details.
Mark stated that the City of Highland has been asked by the Canadian Company, Keystone Pipeline, for an easement. They are considering putting an oil pipeline under Silver Lake in Highland. The city has looked at their offer, about $20,000 for the easement. There is great concern from the City of Highland since this is the only water supply. Not only do they supply water for Highland residents but also for Pierron, Grant Fork and St Jacob.
Mark says the council has instructed their attorney to write a letter to the Keystone Pipeline stating that because it's public property, the pipeline needs to look at alternate routes, other than underneath the lake.
