LOCAL TEACHER HONORED

 

Tuesday was a big day, at the Illinois State Fair, for a local Bond County teacher. local FFA leader and Bond County high school teacher Steve Zimmerman was honored at the State Fair, on Tuesday. Zimmerman was awarded the Excellence in Teaching Award for District 4.  Congratulations to Steve Zimmerman.

KINGSBURY PARK DISTRICT MEETING

 

The August Kingsbury Park District meeting started off with news that the grant money for the Skateboard Park has been received. Plans should be finalized by December and they are shooting for May for the project to be completed and open. Two possible locations for the park have been mentioned. The first is Jaycee's Park and the second by the pool.

 

It was reported that the Clean Lakes Project is near completion. Just a few smaller portions of the project to be completed.

 

The Board decided to move ahead with a plan to put a swail in at the baseball fields where the water drains off of Chestnut Street. It was noted this has been a problem for years and it needs to be fixed.

 

IDOT TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE

 

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that, effective immediately, there will be intermittent daytime lane closures on Illinois Route 140 from Illinois Route 127 to Linder Boulevard, in Greenville.  These lane closures are necessary to patch and resurface the pavement.  The work should be completed by Fall of 2008.

VICTUM/WITNESS PROGRAM INFORMATION

 

The Bond County State’s Attorney, prosecutor based, victim/witness program released details about the second quarter of 2008.  The program provided services to 13 new individuals during that time.  The victims or witnesses were connected to crimes ranging from assault to home invasion.  Staff, of the program, also attended multiple training days focusing on child sexual predators, domestic violence and internet crimes. 
NEW PAYMENT OPTION FOR LICENSES RENEWAL

 

Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White and Illinois State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias announced a new payment option when renewing licenses.  You can now use MasterCard, American Express and Discover credit and debit cards to pay for driver's licenses and identification card fees, as well as vehicle renewals and registrations.  Beginning in mid-July, there were 137 Secretary of State facilities that began accepting the bankcards. White says customer service continues to be one of his top priorities. So far, over 30,000 transactions have been reported.  The office is projecting that two million customers will use credit cards by 2009.

MARJORIE JANE PRESLEY

 

Marjorie Jane Presley, age 88, of Greenville, passed away on Wednesday, at Oliver C Anderson Hospital in Maryville.  Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville.  The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Mt. Auburn Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the Foundation for the Blind or the Hitz Memorial Home in Alhambra.
