ACCIDENT SENDS 4 TO HOSPITAL ON FRIDAY

 

Greenville Police are reporting an injury accident that sent 4 people to Greenville Regional Hospital Friday.  Just after 3:30 Friday afternoon William D. Faith age 17 of Pocahontas was traveling west on Durley Street, at the corner of Locust and said he did not see the stop sign. Kathleen G. Howard age 62 of Greenville, was stooped at that intersection on Locust,and did not see Faith's vehicle until her car was struck. Both drivers and two passengers in Faith's 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee were taken to Greenville Regional Hospital with minor injuries.


SCIGA APPROVES NEW SOFTWARE

 

The South Central Illinois Growth Alliance (SCIGA) has approved the purchase of new computer software that may help in attracting new business's and industry to Southern Illinois. The software from ESRI will allow communities to develop detailed geographic reports for specific clients. These reports can show spending patterns for it's products as well as other demographic information.

KASKASKIA COLLEGE BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING

 

At the last Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees meeting, the board received a report of the Faculty and Staff Development Workshop.  Keynote speaker Dr. Ed Gordon stressed the importance of educational, governmental, and economic organizations working together to enhance employment opportunities. 

 

GIS mapping classes will be presented at the KC Crisp Technology Center, September 4th and October 2nd

 

The board decided to proceed with the bidding process for restroom renovations, approved the contractor for a new soccer field, and approved the architect's plan for construction of six new tennis courts.  In other actions, the board awarded the bid for the purchase of gymnasium lockers and approved the 2008-2009 student activity fee budget.

 

Jane Herrmann, of Belleville, was hired as the new Director of the Physical Therapy Assistant Program and the retirement of Ed Hawkins, Building and Grounds Technician was accepted.

BOND COUNTY ATTENDANCE

 

With a first full week of school for the students at Bond County Unit 2 Schools, we have the enrollment totals for this year. 1800 students were in attendance on the first full day of school. That total is down from last years 1841 students. These are district totals including Sorento, and Pocahontas, elementary through high school.

NWS RECOGNIZES ST. LOUIS AS STORM READY

 

The National Weather Service has praised the St. Louis area for completing a set of warning criteria to earn the honor of being a Storm Ready community. A Storm Ready community must pass a detailed list of guidelines including establishing a 24 hour warning point and emergency operations center, have more than one way to receive severe weather forecasts, develop a formal hazardous weather plan and more. The United States is the most severe weather prone region in the world, but now there are more than 1,300 Storm Ready communities in the U.S.


PARENT-TEEN DRIVING GUIDE ISSUED BY SECRETARY OF STATE

 

Parents, of students enrolled in driver education, will soon be receiving a new parent-teen driving guidebook, from Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White, that outlines the new graduated driver licensing program law, that took effect January 1, 2008.  The guidebooks will be provided when students receive their instruction permit.  The book is a tool to help parents observe and instruct their teen drivers during the instruction permit phase of licensing.  For more information on the guidebooks or the new law, call the Secretary of State's Office at 800-252-8980.

RICHARD E. BECKMAN

 

77 year old Richard E. Beckman of Highland passed away Thursday August 26th at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield IL. Funeral Services will be 10:00am Tuesday September 2nd at Spengel Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland. Burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Visitation is Monday from 4:00PM until 8:00PM and Tuesday from 8:00am until 10:00am at Spengel Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland.

 

AURELIA DOROTHY AMANDA FLOYD

 

86 year old Aurelia Dorothy Amanda Floyd, nee Mansholt, of Sedalia, MO. formerly of New Douglas passed away Friday August 29th at Sylvia Thompson Residence Center in Sedalia MO. Funeral Services for 86 yr old Aurelia Dorothy Amanda Floyd will be 3:00pm Wednesday September 3rd at First United Methodist Church in Greenville. Burial will be at Payne Cemetery in Tamalco. Visitation is Tuesday from 5:00PM until 6:30PM at Heckart Funeral Home in Sedalia, Mo. and Wednesday from 2:00pm until 3:00pm at First United Methodist Church in Greenville.
