ABANDONED HOUSE BURNS TUESDAY MORNING

 

A farmhouse on fire brought out multiple fire districts Tuesday morning.  According to Pocahontas Fire Chief Kendall Brink, both Pocahontas and Grantfork fire departments responded.  The house was back off the road in the woods and was difficult to locate.  The farmhouse was totally burned and the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.


KINGSBURY PARK DISTRICT MEETING

 

September's Kingsbury Park District meeting started off with State Representative Ron Stephens presenting the Park District Board with the $100,000 check from the state, that will be used for the Skateboard Park. The Park District will continue to raise funds for the Skateboard Park for the next few months.

 

Blakenship Construction has completed their work at Patriots Park.

 

Before the meeting came to a close, board member John Goldsmith submitted his resignation, to be effective Wednesday, due to moving out of the district. The board thanked him for the time he has served.

KASKASKIA OFFICIALS PLEASED WITH PASSING HOUSE BILL

 

Kaskaskia College officials are pleased the Illinois House and Senate have both voted to override the Governor's veto of a house bill that clarifies community college districts as local units of government and not state agencies, under the State Officials and Employees Ethics Act.  The veto ensures community colleges will remain under local control.

BENEFIT DOG WASH

 

The Fifth Annual Paws in the Park is coming up this weekend and the community is coming together to help more then just animals. Countryside Pet Clinic will have a booth at Paws in the Park and Dr. McKenny told us know how they're helping out. Countryside Pet Clinic will be having a Dog Wash. For $20.00 you can get your dog cleaned up and they may throw in a Pet-a-Cure too!  All proceeds will go to Cinda Weiss to help with medical expenses.

The Greenville Comets team took second place yesterday in a four way match in Greenville.  Tanner Neese was the Comets low scorer with a 39.

 

The Lady Comets team will play today at home.

The Lady Comets won over Highland 2 out of 3 on Tuesday. 

 

HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER

 

The Comets soccer team lost in penalty kicks after ending regulation and two overtimes in a 2-2 tie with Alton Marquette.  The Comets are 1-4 on the season. 


OBITUARIES

WAYNE V. STONE

 

85 year-old Wayne V. Stone, of Greenville, passed away on Monday at St. Luke's Hospital in Chesterfield, MO. Funeral Services for Wayne Stone will be Saturday at 11:00 AM at Young Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 12th, from 4:00 -8:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be in Montrose cemetery with military honors by VFW Post 1377. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Bond County Hospice.
