BOND COUNTY BOARD MEETING RESULTS

 

The Bond County Board met Tuesday morning and received the Sheriff's report for July. Over 8800 dollars in fees were collected and paid to the Bond County Treasurer. 

 

The Board approved a Lincoln Day Proclamation stating that September 13th, 2008 will be designated as Abraham Lincoln Day in Bond County to commemorate the 150^th anniversary of Lincoln's visit. The county board urges residents to attend the anniversary celebration, September 13th, at the Hoiles-Davis Museum in Greenville. The next Bond County Board meeting will be Tuesday, September 16th, at 7:30 PM.

MULBERRY GROVE MEMORIAL DEDICATION

 

A large crowd gathered in front of the Mulberry Grove High school Sunday afternoon to pay tribute to three Mulberry graduates who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

Taps played and a retired army two-star general spoke of that war, many years ago, that took the lives of over 50 thousand Americans including Specialist Mike J. Scott killed in action in 1968 in Vietnam, Staff Sargent Ronald E. Shipley killed in 1969 and Sargent James L. Scroggins killed in 1973. The three, all graduates of Mulberry Grove, were honored as a monument to their sacrifice was dedicated near the front door of the high school.  A committee of Veterans including Dan Steiner, Dan Willis, Jerry Short and Jim Blankenship worked to make that monument  a reality. You can view that tribute, now unveiled for all to see, in front of the High School in Mulberry Grove.

 

FOURTH STREET CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

 

How’s the Fourth Street renovation project coming along in Greenville? We talked to Greenville City Manager Dave Willey who said the construction is going as planned. The only unanticipated project hold up is on South Street rather than on Fourth Street. South had little base on it, so they needed to do more work once they started. Willey says they are shooting for early October for partial completion and total completion is anticipated for the end of October.

LABOR DAY GOLF TOURNAMENT RESULTS

 

Gillespie golfer Dane Gray finished this year's Jan Nevinger Labor Day Tournament with a 7 under par three-day total of 209 to win this year's event. Greenville golfer Jason Knight finished second with an even par 216 followed by former Champion Michael Chaney at 217 and Alhambra's Tim Gehrig with a three over 219.  Greenville's Mike Eaton won A flight with a 16 over 232, Bart Knight was second, Jarred Beasley third and Bill Cline and Mike Coling Senior tied for 4^th in A flight.  B flight winner was Scott Yancey with Dave Ennen second; Dewey Aper and Ted Albers tied for third. Jeff Smith was the winner of C flight, Lonnie Kessinger and Jim Micnheimer tied for second. Rick Blockyou won D flight with David Jack second and Ron Smith and Denny Potthast tied for third.  The Labor Day event is played, over three days, every year at the Greenville Country Club.
