BOND COUNTY UNIT #2 STUDENTS PLAN TRIP TO FLORIDA

At the most recent Bond County Community Unit 2 Board of Education Meeting, the Greenville High School Band and Chorus are planning a trip to Disney World in Orlando, Florida in spring 2010. Chorus Director Shawn Cox and Band Director Ryan Thomason presented a proposal to raise money to send 100 students plus chaperones and administrators to perform at Disney World. They made this trip before during spring break in 2006 with that trip being very successful. The board approved the trip.

17 seniors at Greenville High School have earned the distinction of being named Illinois State Scholars for 2009. This means they rank in the top 10% of students in Illinois.

More than 2000 food items were collected for the food pantry at the Sorento School last month.

GREENVILLE ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER ADDRESSES SCIGA MEETING

Assistant City Manager for the city of Greenville, Lisa Stephens, addressed the most recent meeting of the South Central Illinois Growth Alliance.  Stephen's presentation highlighted ways to protect an economic vision and keep college students in the community.  "You can't cut away to prosperity." said Stephens.  Communities need to protect their economic development vision by reviewing their strategic plan to see if it is doable.  If so, proceed, and if not, make adjustments.  She also suggested that keeping college students involved in community activities would make them feel valued and help keep them in the region.
