MEN TAKING A WALK ON THE LAKE

 

The Greenville Fire Department was called on Wednesday afternoon to a report of 2 men in the lake. When the Firemen arrived they found 2 men taking a walk on Governor Bond Lake at Buzzard Bay.   There were no injuries and the firemen were on the scene for 4 minutes.  

 


 

GUN AUCTION FRIDAY

 

A big event will be held Friday at the VFW in Greenville.  A great variety of guns will be up for auction including about 60 rifles and 40 pistols, several new in the box.  The auction includes an interesting mix of guns including a German engraved shotgun that can be viewed on the Internet at auctionzip.com.  The sale will be at 6 o'clock Friday night at the Greenville VFW.  For more information on the auction call Nate at 292-9412

ILLINOIS LOSES MORE JOBS

 

The current poor U.S. economy has hit Illinois workers hard. According to data released by the U.S. Department of Labor and other agencies, Illinois lost around 36,000 jobs last December, hiking the unemployment rate to 7.6%, an increase of 0.3% over November. In fact, November and December saw a combined loss of 73,600 jobs. That is the largest two-month decline since 1990. Currently, Illinois has over 505,000 unemployed workers, exceeding 500,000 for the first time since 1992. Nationally, unemployment rose to a 16 year high of 7.2%

THIRD MEETING OF THE MONTH FOR CITY COUNCIL

 

Things are getting busy at City Hall. The Greenville City Council will hold their third meeting of the month tonight and this one has several agenda items including possible action on the first two liquor license applications in the city. Both Motomart and Casey's are on the agenda for that purpose. The council will also be talking about surplus property and lease purchase and development agreements. This special city council meeting starts at 6:30 this evening at City Hall.


NEW FACES, NEW PLACES

 

The Greenville Chamber of Commerce will host a New Faces New Places meeting, to learn about new and expanding businesses in our community. The meeting will be Wednesday, February 4, from 7:30 - 8:30 AM at the Bradford Community Room.

 


OBITUARIES

REX HOPKINS

 

Rex Hopkins, age 84, of Medina, Texas, formerly of Mulberry Grove, passed away Thursday, January 22 at his home.  Funeral services for Rex Hopkins will be Saturday, at the

Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Mulberry Grove. Burial will be in Mulberry Grove Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 1180.  Memorials are suggested to the Mulberry Grove Cemetery or the donor's choice.  The family will receive friends from noon Saturday until service time.

 

MADELYN G. WRISBERG

 

Madelyn G. Wrisberg, age 87, of Greenville passed away Thursday, January 29, at Fair Oaks Nursing Home.  Funeral services for Madelyn Wrisberg will be at 11:30 AM Saturday, at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville.  Burial will be in Mt. Auburn Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Saturday, from 9:30 AM until service time, at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church.
