BOND COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY PLANS NEW BUILDING

The Bond County Humane Society has announced plans for construction of a new building in Greenville. Rachel Hunsdorfer, from the Bond County Humane Society, recently gave WGEL an update. She said they purchased a little over two acres on South Elm Street and have contracted with a company called Hound Quarters to design the new facility. Hound Quarters has a reputation of designing and building animal shelters, grooming and kennel boarding facilities. Currently, the building is designed to cover over 5500 square feet. Hunsdorfer added that now they will review and modify the floor plans, then create a conceptual design that people can see. After that the society will hold fundraisers to help defray some of the costs.

KASKASKIA COLLEGE TO HOUSE AN INTERNATIONAL TRADE CENTER

Kaskaskia College was chosen to house an International Trade Center (ITC). The ITC can develop an International Business Certificate Program, assist companies with exports to possibly increase sales, provide import/export seminars, provide companies with international financing opportunities and participate with the World Trade Center and State of Illinois Export programs in foreign trade missions to Asia, Mexico, etc. Southern Illinois companies benefit from these programs by increasing export sales and creating new jobs to help local economies. The International Trade Center will be located at the KC Workforce Center in downtown Centralia.

GREENVILLE REGIONAL HOSPITAL BEGINS HOTEL-STYLE ROOM SERVICE

Greenville Regional Hospital recently began offering hotel-style room service and restaurant-style meal service to patients and their families. A hostess visits with each patient, explains the daily specials and takes the patient's order. Patients may order full meals or a-la-carte, from a full menu anytime between 6:30 AM and 6:30 PM. According to Food and Nutrition Services Manager Mary Kaiser, feedback to the new service has been tremendous.

CARLYLE LAKE RISES

Due to precipitation last week, Carlyle Lake has risen and is predicted to crest Monday, February 16, at 449 feet, without additional rainfall. Target pool elevation during winter months is 443 feet. At an elevation of 449 feet, the Lakeview Fishing Pier in the Dam East Recreation Area will be closed.

AGRICULTURE SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE TO HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS

State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias will award ten $2,500 scholarships to deserving high school seniors who plan to pursue a career in agriculture at an Illinois-based college or university. COMETS BLOW OUT PIASA ON SENIOR NIGHT

The great season for the Greenville High School Boys basketball Comets continues. Saturday night was senior night, and the Comets hosted Piasa Southwestern. Greenville got out to a quick 16 point lead in the first quarter, and by the end of the 3^rd quarter held a 31 point lead. After that they coasted to an easy 71-53 victory. The Comets improved to an astonishing 23-4 for the season and next play at Breese Central Friday Feb. 20^th. Listen to the game live on WGEL Radio 101.7FM.

Junior C. Hamann, age 79, of Alhambra, formerly of Mt. Olive, passed away Saturday, February 14, at Hitz Memorial Home in Alhambra. Irene E. Marquis, age 86, of Highland, passed away Saturday, February 14, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Highland. Andrew W. "Andy" Growe, age 60, of Highland, passed away Sunday, February 15, at Highland Health Care Center. Eileen M McDonald age 87 of Greenville passed away Thursday Feb 12^th at Helia Healthcare. Funeral services for Eileen McDonald will be Tuesday Feb 17^th at 11am at Young Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will be in Mount Auburn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6-8PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Bond County Hospice.
