GREENVILLE MAN CHARGED IN ALLEGED SEXUAL ASSAULT CASE

 

Charges have been filed against a Greenville man for alleged predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.  42 year-old Leonard W. Barnhart was charged with two class X felonies for allegedly committing a sexual act with a child under 13 years of age, from December 2004 to December 2006.  Barnhart was also charged with two counts of alleged criminal sexual assault between the dates of December 14, 2006 to October 2007.  At news time Barnhart was being held at the Bond County Jail on $500,000 bail, and is ordered to have no contact with any individuals under 18 years old. A preliminary hearing is set for April 8th at the Bond County Courthouse.

ROLLOVER ACCIDENT AT HIGHLAND/PIERRON EXIT

 

We have additional information on the condition of a Breese man, involved in a rollover accident early Saturday morning.  According to a spokesman at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Jerome Eilers is in fair condition, as of Monday morning.  Illinois State Police responded at approximately 3:00 AM Saturday to the scene of a rollover accident near the Highland/Pierron exit on I-70.  According to the police report, Eilers, age 35, of Breese, was traveling eastbound on I-70 near the Rt. 143 exit when he drove off the right side of the road.  When he tried to re-gain control, Eilers overcompensated and rolled his 1992 red Geo Tracker numerous times, coming to rest near the median. Eilers was unconscious with serious injuries and was extracted from his vehicle. He was flown by helicopter to Barnes-Jewish hospital in St. Louis.

LIFETIME HONORARY MEMBERS OF GREENVILLE NAMED

 

The Greenville Regional Hospital Board of Directors has appointed Doctor Boyd A. McCracken and Doctor Charles R. Daisy lifetime honorary board members.  Both men served the Greenville community for many years as local family physicians and each has served on the hospital board of directors for 26 years.  Board of Directors Chairman Morris L. Bond said, "These men have demonstrated great leadership for the local medical community throughout their careers and I am very pleased that the community will continue to benefit from their professional knowledge and experience."

FAIR BOARD DISCUSSES 2009 DEMO PLANS

 

The March meeting of the Bond County Fair Board was held recently at the Bradford Room. A co-chairman for Relay-for-Life asked to use the fairgrounds for June 4,5,6. The request was approved. The Civil War Re-enactment Group updated the board on the re-enactment at the Bond County Fair. The group's plans were progressing nicely. The Demo Derby Superintendent reported that he has an announcer and crew to supervise the derby and has completed the rules for the derby. Harness racing will take place Thursday night at 6:00 PM at the fair. Finally, in closed session, the contract for beer sales was discussed.

BOND COUNTY BOARD MEETS TONIGHT

 

The Bond County Board will meet tonight in their regular meeting at the Bond County Courthouse. George Shaw will address the board about a request of rezone in Old Ripley.  Anna Oestreich from the Bond County Senior Center will update the board on the application for the stimulus package. In other business the board will receive a request from the Doll Family Partnership to solicit Colt Coal Company for written commitment. The board will meet in the courthouse boardroom tonight at 7:30.

The Greenville Chamber of Commerce board of directors met recently and the Gerald Turley Award presentation was on the agenda. The Turley Committee is looking for nominations for this year's award.
