TWO DIE SATURDAY IN ACCIDENT IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY

 

Montgomery County Sheriff's Officers, Hillsboro Police, Illinois State Police, Hillsboro Firemen, and Hillsboro Area Ambulance responded Saturday evening to the scene of a two-car accident at the intersection of North Road and Butler Avenue, north of Hillsboro.  A 2002 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck, driven by Derek R. Boas, age 28, of Hillsboro, was westbound on Butler Avenue and a 1999 Oldsmobile Cutlass, driven by Terri L. Jachino, age 50, also of Hillsboro, was southbound on North Road.  According to information in the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department report, the two vehicles collided in the intersection.  Terri Jachino was injured and transported from the scene by ambulance and then airlifted by ARCH helicopter to St. John's Hospital in Springfield.  A five year-old male passenger in the Boas vehicle was injured and airlifted by ARCH helicopter from the scene to St. John's Hospital.  Derek Boas and a passenger, identified as Leann E. Draper, age 25, of Coffeen, were both pronounced deceased at the scene by Montgomery County Coroner Rick Broaddus.  The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and the Illinois State Police are investigating the accident.


HOSPITAL AUXILIARY SPRING SALAD LUNCHEON COMING SOON

 

The Greenville Regional Hospital Auxiliary annual spring salad luncheon will be Friday, April 17, from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall of the Greenville First United Methodist Church on South Second Street.  The menu will feature a variety of homemade salads and desserts for a minimum donation of $7.50.  Carryouts will be available for the same price.  Please arrange meal deliveries by calling 664-2728 by Thursday, April 16.

 

 

 

WESCLIN FFA CHAPTER PLANS SILENT AUCTION

 

The Wesclin High School FFA Chapter is planning a silent auction in conjunction with their annual chapter banquet, April 22, in the Wesclin school cafeteria.  FFA Advisor Matt Fisher said the money raised will be used to help finance member attendance at conventions, conferences and leadership camps.

AGRICULTURE SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINE APPROACHING

 

State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias invites Illinois high school seniors, planning to study agriculture-related careers in college, to apply for his Excellence in Agriculture scholarships.  Ten, $2,500 scholarships will be awarded to deserving students who plan to attend an Illinois college or university this fall. Applications must be postmarked on or before May 14, 2009.  Applications are available on the treasurer's website www.treasurer.il.gov.




NEW SYSTEM INSTALLED AT POLICE DEPARTMENT

 

The new Starcom 21 system has been installed at the County and the City Police Departments. According to Allan Davis, the dispatch consoles have been working with intermittent glitches.  Testing of the equipment will continue throughout this week.   

 


REMOVE POLITICAL SIGNS

 

According to city ordinance, all Greenville residents are advised to remove posted political signs by April 17th.  All political signs must be removed by April 17th.


SENATE APPROVES MILITARY BASE DRIVER'S EDUCATION CLASSES

 

The Illinois Senate recently unanimously approved legislation allowing Illinois high school students, who take driver's education courses on U.S. military bases around the world, to qualify for an Illinois driver's license.  This legislation was sponsored by new state Senator Kyle McCarter, who said, "These Illinois families are away from home, but they should still be able to receive the benefits of their citizenship and their Illinois residency."  The measure now awaits action by the Illinois House.

ROAD CLOSED FOR RAILROAD WORK 

 

Today, April 13, 4th Street, south of Franklin, at the railroad crossing, will be closed through mid-day Tuesday, April 14, for railroad crossing work.

LEAH M. "TOOTIE" FREY

 

Leah M. "Tootie" Frey, age 82, of Highland, passed away Wednesday, April 8, at her home.  Funeral services for 82 year-old Leah Frey will be Monday, at 10:00 AM, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Pierron.  There will be no visitation.  Memorials are suggested to Heartland Hospice, in the form of Masses, or to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
