WIND TURBINE NEAR FARMERSVILLE

A new 230 foot wind turbine, at an old coal mine site, went into operation March 5 near Farmersville, Illinois. It is the first wind turbine to be built on state property. The turbine is called a "GobNob Wind Turbine" because it sits on a "gob" pile that was created from the old mine, which has now been turned into a wildlife habitat area. So far it has generated 260,000 kilowatt hours of electricity and soon will generate power to customers in Christian, Montgomery, Macoupin, Morgan and Sangamon counties.
