BOND COUNTY HEALTH BOARD MEETING

 

The Bond County Health Board met Monday night.  John Carpenter, with Korte Construction, reported that the construction of the new health department building is on schedule.  A tentative completion date is set for July 21.  The board approved a contract with Ferral Gas for a 1,450 gallon underground propane tank.  The all-inclusive contract was for $5,009.  Bids for furniture at the new health department building will be opened on May 26.  Four health board members terms expire in June.  Dr. Tracy Hall, Sandy Lang and Brenda Miller have committed to staying on the board. 

 

An H1N1 flu update was presented at the meeting.  This showed that over 500 cases of H1N1 flu have been confirmed in Illinois.  Three samples from Bond County have been sent for testing, but all tested negative for the virus.  The Bond County Health Board June meeting will be one week later than usual, Monday June 15. 


MAY KINGSBURY PARK DISTRICT MEETING

 

The May Kingsbury Park meeting was Monday night, with the swearing in of newly elected board members David Oestreich, Dennis Warren, Anthony Macon, Aiden Monsard and returning member Matt Willman. They will join Shannon McGuire and Tommy Simpson to complete the board. Retiring members Dave Barbie and Dalelene Yates were honored with plaques for their service on the Board. Dave has served on the board since 1996 and Dalelene has served since 2001.

 

Tommy Simpson was elected President, Shannon McGuire Vice-President and David Oestreich Treasurer.

 

Park District Director Jerry Souerwein reported the dugouts at JC Field will be ready for use for the first game in June. The pool will also be ready to open for Memorial Day weekend. The recreation brochure is ready and went out May 7. The park district will be sending out more flyers with the kids before the end of the school year to help promote summer events.

 

The board then went into executive session to discuss the land aquisition.

LETTER CARRIERS COLLECT FOOD TO HELP STAMP OUT HUNGER

 

Postal letter carriers around the area collected donations for the local food pantries Saturday, May 9.  Val Gassner, a city carrier from Greenville, said everything went very well and thanked everyone for participating in the food drive.  Greenville carriers collected approximately 5,000 pounds of food Saturday for the local food bank.  She said you may still donate if you were not able to put out your food items Saturday.

SCIGA MAY MEETING

 

The South Central Illinois Growth Alliance's next meeting is set for Wednesday, May 27,at 5:30 PM in the Lifelong Learning Center at Kaskaskia College. The speaker will be Tim Cantwell, Airport Director for Mid-America St. Louis Airport. He will be talking about international freight and future opportunities for the airport.
