DAY ONE OF THE GREAT CELEBRITY PIE AUCTION

 

Day one of the Great Celebrity Pie Auction is over and in the can…or the pie pan.  Pie bakers and auctioneers Monday morning were Bond County Sherriff Jeff Brown, Greenville Junior High School Principal Gary Brauns, Father Vic from St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Ryan Bauer Principal of the Mulberry Grove JR/SR High School, and Bond County Board member Jerry McCray.  The first day’s auctions raised $2,765 for the Bond County Relay for Life.  WGEL thanks the bidders and the bakers for making the first day of the pie auction such a great success.  Tune in for more pie auction fundraising Wednesday morning starting in the 6:00 AM hour.  Bakers for Wednesday 6:10  Eric Swingler

KC BOARD HEARS REPORT ON NEW PROGRAM OFFERINGS

 

At the last Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees Meeting, the board received a report from Associate Dean of Institutional Effectiveness Nancy Kinsey on the College's Institutional Plan.  Highlights of the plan include implementation of new programs to meet the demands for trained personnel in masonry, green construction management, robotics, auto parts management, horticulture, pre-dental hygiene, welding certificates, security certificates, barbering, radio/TV programming, green collar jobs and others. 

 

The KC Phi Beta Lambda Chapter recently attended the State Leadership Conference where they competed in individual and team events.  KC students received two first place awards, two seconds, two thirds and one second place chapter award. 

 

The KC Scroll Newspaper staff recently won several awards from the Illinois Community College Journalism Association. 

 

The board hired Robert Hawkins as a new Assistant Professor of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning, Ruth Barczewski to be the Nashville Education Coordinator, Cheryl Johnson the Bookstore Manager, Torey Crowell the Interim Head Softball Coach, and Steven Groner the Project Manager for the Small Business Development Center. 

 

Bids were accepted for construction of the new tennis courts, security enhancements and data center enhancements.  Resolutions were approved for the purchase of library periodicals, technology equipment and Blackboard/Datatel Interface.


ATTORNEY GENERAL PLEASED BY PASSAGE OF ENERGY INITIATIVE

 

Attorney General Lisa Madigan thanked members of the General Assembly Sunday, following passage of a three-pronged energy package designed to protect the interests of consumers by strengthening ethics rules at the Illinois Commerce Commission, promoting energy efficiency, and helping low-income families with utility bills.  Madigan said, "This legislation will bring important, pro-consumer changes to the way we approach energy issues in Illinois."  Senators and representatives from both sides of the aisle supported SB 1918, which now goes to the Governor for his signature.


NEW CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER AT CLINTON COUNTY ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE

 

Mike Johnson, currently Manager of Finance & Cooperate Services at Poudre Valley REA in Fort Collins, Colorado, has been named the new President and Chief Operating Officer at Clinton County Electric Cooperative in Breese.  Johnson was selected to replace James Riddle who took a similar position at Egyptian Electric Cooperative in Steeleville, Illinois. Johnson has family in the area, including his first grandchild born last Tuesday. Johnson says he prefers the midwest because of the work ethic of the people and the quality of life it offers.
