DARRYL BOLEN HONORED

 

Darryl Bolen has been the Chairman of the Greenville Federal Correctional Institution Community Relations Board since the prison has been in Greenville. Thursday the Commission met and honored Darryl on being selected to recently travel to Washington to receive national recognition for his work from United States Attorney General Erick Holder. Bolen said, "It was a wonderful experience. I was honored to represent the Greenville Community and Bond County." He added that the Attorney General was a very gracious and kind man and that the event was a celebration of volunteers.

HEAT WARNING...TEMPERATURES HIT HIGH 90S

An excessive heat warning is in effect for the metro east area through Wednesday night.  Highs will hit the mid-90s today with the heat index between 105 and 110 degrees.  Residents are warned to limit the amount of time spent outside and avoid alcohol and caffeine.  The Bond County Senior Center will serve as a cooling station from 9-5 Monday through Friday.

TRENTON VFW AUXILIARY COLLECTS FOR HOSPITALIZED VETERANS

 

The Trenton VFW Post 7983 Auxiliary will have collection boxes at the IGA and Dollar General stores in Trenton.  You are asked to donate personal care items such as shampoo, shaving cream, deodorant, and toiletry items.  In addition, items such as cards, workbooks, stationary, games, caps, large and extra-large T-shirts, and socks are also needed.  Donated items will be taken to Jefferson Barracks Hospital in July.

WALTER "BUCKY" BRAKE

Walter E. "Bucky" Brake, age 74, of Greenville, passed away Thursday, June 18 at Greenville Regional Hospital. Funeral services for Walter "Bucky" Brake will be Tuesday, at 10:30 AM at Herbert A. Kassly Funeral Home in Collinsville. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery in Collinsville. Visitation is Monday, from 3:30 - 8:00 PM at Kassly Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.


HELEN R. NEECE

 

Helen R. Neece, age 78, of Greenville, passed away Sunday, June 21st at her home.  Funeral services for 78 year-old Helen Neece will be at 11:00 AM Thursday at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville.  Interment will follow in Mt. Auburn Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Wednesday, from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the Free Methodist Building Fund or Durley Camp.
