EDWARDSVILLE COUPLE CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED BATTERY OF A CHILD
Derek T. Hill, Sr., age 21 and his wife Eva E. Hill, age 27, both of Edwardsville, were charged Monday, in Madison County Circuit Court, with felony charges of alleged aggravated battery of a child. According to the Madison County Sheriff's Office, as a result of an investigation by the Sheriff's Office and a representative of the Department of Children and Family Services, it was determined that the father had physically abused the two-year-old child. The father had been allegedly beating the child with a belt and had put him into a clothes dryer. The authorities observed bruises, scratches and a cigarette burn on his cheek. The mother, Eva Hill was aware of the abuse but allegedly did nothing to protect the child. The Hills have two children, a one-year-old and the two-year-old. The children were taken into protective custody by the DCFS and Derek and Eva Hill were held in the Madison County Jail. Bond was set at $50,000 on both subjects.
