HEAT WAVES CONTINUES….BUT RELIEF COULD BE IN SIGHT

As the heat wave continues, the heat advisory is in effect through Saturday night, but partial relief may finally be in sight. It’s projected that the stretch of 90+ degree days may end on Sunday.  With heat index reaching well over 100, this current heat wave has claimed lives throughout the Midwest, including one probable heat related death in Madison County.  While hopefully the worst will be over by Sunday, until then temperatures will still reach well into the 90's.  Please remember to stay inside as much as possible, stay hydrated, avoid alcoholic and caffeinated drinks, and check on your friends, neighbors and family.  The Bond County Senior Center is serving as a cooling center from 9:00 - 5:00 through Friday.

LIBERTY 4-H CLUB RECEIVES GRANT

The Liberty 4-H Club has been selected to receive a 4-H Community Improvement Grant sponsored by Illinois Farm Credit Services and provided through the Illinois 4-H Foundation.  The grant is for landscaping improvements at the Mulberry Grove Fire Department building.  On June 6, 2009, club members and fire department personnel painted, planted flowers and shrubs, put down brick paving blocks, and set planters at the Mulberry Grove Firehouse.  This community service grant opportunity is just one of the many positive youth development experiences available through the Illinois 4-H program.
