GREENVILLE RAIN TOTALS FOR JUNE

 

Greenville received a fair amount of rain in June but less than the previous two months.  4.42 inches of rain fell at the Sewer Plant, the station on Sixth Street measured 4.6 inches and at Idler Lane and Rt. 140, 4.58 inches were recorded.  Rain totals for June 2009 are just slightly higher than the average rainfall for the month which is 4.308 inches, as recorded over the past 10 years.

SHIMKUS ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR MILITARY ACADEMIES

 

Congressman John Shimkus is accepting applications from young men and women interested in attending one of the United States military academies.  To be eligible, you must be a United States citizen, at least 17 and not more than 23 years old, unmarried, not pregnant, have no dependents, and a legal resident of the 19th Congressional District of Illinois.  Completed applications must be received by November 1, 2009.  For information, call Dora at 618-344-3065.

FIRE ALARM

 

Greenville Firemen responded to a fire alarm sounding at 740 North Elm at 5:08 Tuesday night. After arriving firemen talked to the owner, who said that steam from a dryer tripped the alarm. After a brief investigation, no fire was found. They were on the scene for 25 minutes.

FIRE ALARM AT THE GLENWOOD

 

Greenville Firemen responded to a fire alarm at the Glenwood at 12:12 PM Monday. After a brief investigation it was determined that a person cooking in a room set off the alarm when excessive smoke occurred. There was no fire and firemen were on the scene for 15 minutes.


OBITUARIES

HERBERT M TAYLOR

 

Herbert M. Taylor, age 78 of Greenville, passed away Monday, June 29th at St. Lukes Hospital in Chesterfield, MO. Funeral services for 78 year-old Herbert Taylor will be Thursday at 11am at Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will follow in Maxey Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 9 until 11am at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.

 

FRANCES GANZER

 

Frances Ganzer, age 93, of Old Ripley, passed away Wednesday, July 1 at Fair Oaks Nursing Home.  Funeral services for 93 year-old Frances Ganzer will be Saturday, at 11:00 AM, at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville.  Burial will be in Brown Cemetery.  Friends may call Friday, from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to the Old Ripley Church of Christ or to Brown Cemetery.
