THREE CARS STOLEN FROM CENTRALIA DEALERSHIP LEAD TO CLINTON COUNTY CHASE

 

Three cars stolen early Monday morning from the Monken Dodge dealership in Centralia, led Clinton County Deputies on a chase that ended with two of the stolen cars being recovered and one being searched for.  According to the Clinton County Sherriff's Department, three individuals were dropped off around 3:30 AM Monday, July 6, at Monken Dodge. These three people each allegedly stole a car from Monken and drove through Clinton County.  A Sherriff's Deputy was able to locate the stolen vehicles and a Germantown Police Officer was able to lay his "stop sticks," which are designed to flatten car tires, on Route 161 in the path of the stolen vehicles.  Two of the cars were recovered and two arrests were made.  Arrested were Jose Butler, age 20, of Belleville and 16 year-old juvenile from East St. Louis.  Butler is being is being held at the Clinton County Jail on $50,000 bond. No information is available on the juvenile.  WGEL spoke with Centralia Police Captain Dinsmeyer about the investigation into who was the driver of the third stolen car.

BODY FOUND IN EAST ST. LOUIS IDENTIFIED

 

The body found in East St. Louis on Sunday, has been identified as 46 year-old Nathaniel Smith of East St. Louis.  According to the St. Clair County Coroner's office, Smith was pronounced dead at 10:50 AM Sunday. The cause of death has not been determined.

TROY MAN ARRESTED ON CHARGE OF ALLEGED AGGRAVATED BATTERY

 

On June 22, Troy Police were notified of a nine-week old infant admitted to St. Louis Children's Hospital with numerous rib fractures.  Following an investigation, 27 year-old John D. Cravens, of Troy, was arrested on the charge of alleged aggravated battery to a child.  The charge is a class X felony with bond set at $500,000.  The child is in protective custody and police are still investigating.

BRIDGE ON DUDLEYVILLE ROAD HAS WEIGHT RESTRICTION

 

A bridge on the Dudleyville Road in Central Township, approximately one-quarter mile south of Airport Avenue, now has a weight restriction.  The posted limit is three tons gross weight.  No loads over three tons should cross the structure.  Failure to follow the posted weight limit may result in structure failure, property damage or loss, and personal injury.  Central Township has implemented procedures to have the bridge replaced.  If you have questions or concerns, call 664-4248.

MELVIN MUELLER

 

Melvin Mueller, age 80, of rural New Douglas, passed away Tuesday, July 7 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.  Funeral services for 80 year-old Melvin Mueller will be Friday, at 11:00 AM, at Lesicko Funeral Home in New Douglas.  Burial will be in New Douglas Cemetery.  Friends may call Thursday, from 4:00 - 8:00 PM and Friday, from 8:00 AM until service time, at the funeral home. 


JAMES D. BROWN

 

James "Jim" D. Brown, age 77, of Greenville, passed away Tuesday, July 7 at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. Funeral services for 77 year-old Jim Brown will be Saturday at 11:00 AM, at the Greenville First Presbyterian Church.  Burial will be in Brown Cemetery.  Friends may call Friday, from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville.  Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.


EUGENE C. "GENO" LIENING

 

Eugene C. "Geno" Liening, age 77, of Highland, passed away Tuesday, July 7 at Highland Health Care Center.  Private graveside services for 77 year-old Eugene Liening will be Tuesday, July 14.  No visitation is planned.  Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
