BOND COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT MEETING
The Bond County Health Department met Monday night for the last time in the current Health Department Building. The August meeting will be the first one in the new building. Jon Carpenter with Korte Company gave a building construction update which showed that the substantial completion date could be as earlier as July 30th. The date in the contract isn’t until August 21st which means construction progress is ahead of schedule. On the cost side of the new building, the report showed that just over 2.8 Million dollars of the budgeted 3.88 Million dollars has been spent on the building so far. The health department also reviewed the audit from 2008. The auditor gave the health department a clean opinion, and said the department has a good fiscal system in place.
Discussion also turned to the West Nile Virus, Health Department Director Maxine Barth said that so far no cases of West Nile have been found in Bond County. Mosquito testing continues as does the collection of birds for testing. An H1N1 update was also discussed. It was said that the latest information included a possible vaccine for H1N1 could be available by the fall, and that the standard flu vaccines may need to be given earlier than normal to allow for time between the standard vaccine and the H1N1 vaccine.
