CHARGES FILED IN FATAL ACCIDENT THAT KILLED FOUR NEAR KEYESPORT

 

Charges have been filed in relation to a fatal accident that happened, in May of this year, near Keyesport.  The two-car accident took four lives and sent four others to the hospital.  According to a press release from Clinton County State's Attorney John Hudspeth, Melissa Weiser, age 27, of East Carondelet, has been charged with 32 felony counts of alleged aggravated DUI.  Weiser was the driver of a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am that was northbound on Emerald Road when she allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Emerald and Keysport Roads.  Weiser’s vehicle then struck a 2004 Cadillac Escalade.  According to the Clinton County State's Attorney’s Office, the first 16 counts are each a Class 2 Felony related to the deaths caused by the accident.  Counts 17-32 are Class 4 Felonies relating to the injuries sustained by the four survivors of the accident.  Weiser was arrested Monday and is being held in Clinton County Jail on $100,000 bail.   

 

8 YEARS FOR POSSESION OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY IN FAYETTE COUNTY COURT

 

Dustin Haupt, age 31, of Carlyle, plead guilty in May of this year to one count of possession of child pornography.  According to Fayette County court records, Haupt was sentenced to eight years in the Illinois Department of Corrections with one year manditory supervised release and a $1,000.00 fine. This sentence will run concurrently with a three year sentence in an aggravated battery case, also from Fayette County court. 

 

BRIDGE WEIGHT LIMIT REMOVED

 

According to Bond County Highway Engineer Mike McCormick, IDOT and the Bond County Highway Department have removed the weight limit on the bridge just north of Pocahontas on the North Pokey Road.

STOVE STARTS FIRE ON AYERS ROAD

 

A gas stove started a fire at 1394 Ayers Road in Bond County around 1:00 p.m. Wednesday.  Greenville Firemen responded.  The stove caught a place mat on fire but the fire was extinguished by the occupant before firemen arrived.  Fire damage was limited to the stove and mat, with smoke damage affecting more of the home.  The total estimated damage was around $2,400.  No one was hurt, and firemen were on the scene for about 40 minutes. 

EAGLE CREEK RESORT OPERATOR SOUGHT

 

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is seeking a new operator for the Eagle Creek Resort and Conference Center, a lodge and golf course complex on the shore of Lake Shelbyville in the Eagle Creek State Recreation Area in Shelby County.  Detailed information on the resort facilities and requirements for operation may be found on the IDNR website.  There will be an informational meeting Wednesday, September 9 at 10:00 a.m. at the resort.  For more information, call 217-782-7940.

HIGH SCHOOL GOLF

 

The Lady Comets golf team took third in a three way match on Wednesday at Nashville.  The Lady Comets shot a combined 246.  Jessica Grigg was the Lady Comets low scorer with a 53.  The Lady Comets also played Thursday at Breese.  The team shot a combined 240 and Jessica Grigg was again the low scorer with a 57.
