JOGGER STRUCK BY CAR IN GREENVILLE

 

A jogger was struck by a car Thuirsday morning at the corner of Harris Avenue and Elm Street.  21 year-old Greenville College student Tallen Gerber was jogging northbound on Elm Street and crossed Harris Avenue where she was struck by a car that was traveling westbound on Harris.  According to Greenville Police, no charges will be filed against the driver of the car as it had a green light and was not at fault for the accident.  Bond County EMS took Gerber to Greenville Regional Hospital for treatment of injuries and she was transferred to a St. Louis area hospital.

MACHINE SHED FIRE BRINGS OUT THREE FIRE DEPARTMENTS

 

Smithboro Firemen responded to a large machine shed fire around 9:30 Thursday morning.  Mulberry Grove and Greenville Fire Departments were called for mutual aid.  According to Smithboro Fire Chief Dale Deverick, the shed was a complete loss and much of the personal property inside was also damaged.  The cause of the fire is undertermined and no one was hurt.  Smithboro Firemen were on the scene for nearly three hours

BOND COUNTY BOARD APPROVES RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR VETERAN'S TRIBUTE AT KC CAMPUS

 

At their most recent meeting, the Bond County Board approved a resolution of support for the veteran's memorial to be built at the KC Main Campus in Centralia.  The memorial will include the name of any veteran who lives in or has lived in Bond, Clinton, Washington, Marion or Fayette counties or has a family member that lives in any of these counties.  The county board also approved a resolution of support for the Bond County Senior Center as it applies for a grant to help fund the building of a new center.  Anna Oestrich was at the meeting and explained that no official word has been received about the grant, applied for a few months ago, but said that no applications for that grant have been approved and no money awarded so far.  The same application may be used for the new grant and it's hopeful this one will be awarded to the senior center.

ROSEBUD CLOSES

 

After two years in business and 129 shows, the Rosebud Theatre in Effingham will be closing its doors in December. According to a press release from the theatre, they have had some phenomenally successful shows, such as Rodney Carrington and Willie Nelson, but audience numbers for the smaller acts have been down and they find it nearly impossible to fund the day-to-day operation. All previously purchased tickets for the 2009 season will be honored and they will close for good on December 5.


BOND COUNTY VICTIM/WITNESS REPORT

 

The Bond County State's Attorney's Office has released the quarterly report for the prosecutor based victim/witness program. The report is for the period of July 1, 2009 through September 30, 2009. During the quarter, seven victims, eight witnesses and sixteen non-offending significant others received services. 37 new and ongoing clients received advocacy services during this period. A total of 163 new and ongoing clients received assistance services.

OBITUARIES

RAYMOND "CHICK" PATTON

 

 

Raymond L. "Chick" Patton age 88 of Greenville passed away Friday, October 9th at his home. Funeral services for 88 year-old Raymond "Chick" Patton will be Tuesday at 11am at Young Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery with military honors by V.F.W. Post #1377. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 8PM at Young Funeral Home in Greenville. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Lem Rhoades Foundation or the Bond County Humane Society.
