TIME TO PREPARE FOR WINTER DRIVING CONDITIONS
The Illinois Department of Transportation and Illinois State Police are preparing for winter driving conditions. Snow and ice removal equipment and supplies are being readied for anticipated winter weather and you should also prepare your vehicle for winter driving and emergency situations. Always keep your gas tank at least two-thirds full. Check your radiator anti-freeze to be sure it is sufficient to prevent freezing. Make sure your tires are properly inflated and have good tread. Always carry an emergency car care kit that has jumper cables, flares or reflectors, a flashlight, windshield washer fluid, an ice scraper, traction materials, blankets, non-perishable food and a first aid kit. If you must travel during hazardous winter conditions, always make sure someone is aware of your travel route, dress warmly in layers, carry a cell phone, wear your safety belt, and remember the safety message, "Ice and Snow-Take it Slow."
