COUPLE FACES CHARGES OVER KIDS SLEEPING IN VAN

A homeless couple is facing charges of alleged child endangerment after leaving their two young sons alone in the family's minivan while they slept in a Caseyville, Illinois hotel room.  The family had been sent to the hotel by police after they'd been discovered sleeping in the vehicle on the McDonald's parking lot on Illinois Route 157.  About two hours later, 29-year-old Benjamin Atkins and 28-year-old Jayme Bowling were arrested when the manager of the Days Inn called police to report that the couple had left their children strapped in their car seats in the van while they slept in a room.  Both boys, one seven months old, the other about two, have been taken into temporary protective custody by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.
