HOLIDAY BAZAAR HAS OVER $32,000 IN PROCEEDS

The 52^nd Annual Greenville Regional Hospital Auxiliary Holiday Bazaar this past Saturday had proceeds of more than $32,000. Every year since 2003, sales from the bazaar have been greater than $30,000. Over the years, proceeds from the bazaar have helped the Hospital Auxiliary donate over $3.3 million dollars to Greenville Regional Hospital and Fair Oaks. Organizers were pleased with the attendance and total proceeds considering the present economic conditions. Five to six large boxes of food were also collected from shoppers entering the bazaar. Items not sold will be on sale this Saturday at the Annual Greenville Kiwanis Club Pancake and Sausage Day at the St. Lawrence Church in Greenville from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

FIRST SNOWFALL FOR GREENVILLE THIS WINTER

The first measurable snowfall of the season arrived Sunday night and Monday morning in Greenville. According to the Greenville Water Treatment Department, all three reporting stations showed one eighth of an inch of snow fell here in Greenville. SALEM NATIVE'S CIVIL WAR DIARY DONATED TO LINCOLN MUSEUM

The Civil War diary of Salem, Illinois native Dr. James A. Black has been donated to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield. James Black enlisted in the 49^th Illinois Infantry at Camp Butler on January 1, 1862, as a private. His prior medical experiences caused him to volunteer to help treat wounded soldiers and secured him a position as Assistant Surgeon for the regiment. His transcribed diary depicts his service from January 1, 1862 to December 31, 1865. After the war, Dr. Black established a practice in Fillmore, in Montgomery County and later moved his practice to Bond County serving residents as a country doctor until his death in 1902. The Black diary joins 122 Civil War diaries and 400 collections at the museum.

LADY COMETS DEFEAT VANDALIA

The Greenville High School Lady Comets basketball team had another against the Vandalia Lady Vandals Monday night but they broke open a close game in the second half and cruised to a 62-45 conference win.

WALTER M. "BUTCH" REECE

Walter M. "Butch" Reece, age 66, of Highland, passed away Saturday, December 5 at Helia Healthcare in Greenville. Funeral services for 66 year-old Walter "Butch" Reece will be Saturday, December 12 at 7:00 p.m., at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland. Visitation will be Saturday, from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Military honors will be performed at 7:00 p.m.

JIMMY ALLEN

Jimmy Allen, age 34, of Sorento, passed away Saturday, December 5 at his home. Funeral srvices for 34 year-old Jimmy Allen will be Friday, at 11:00 a.m. at the County Line Family Church in Donnellson. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery in Sorento. Visitation will be Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the church. The Perfetti Funeral Home in Panama is in charge of the arrangements.

ELMER HOCHULI

Elmer L. Hochuli, age 94, of Highland, passed away Monday, December 7 at Faith Care Center/Faith Countryside Homes in Highland. Funeral services for 94 year-old Elmer Hochuli will be Wednesday, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Highland. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 8:00 - 9:00 a.m. at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland.

EUGENE MUELLER

Eugene Mueller, age 96, of Carlyle, passed away Sunday, December 6 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese. Private funeral services are planned for 96 year-old Eugene Mueller. Memorials are suggested to the National Kidney Foundation or to St. Mary's Church and will be received at Zieren Day Funeral Home, who is handling the funeral arrangments.

STEVEN D. RUDDER

Steve D. Rudder, age 47 of Carlyle, passed away on Sunday December 6^th at Greenville Regional Hospital. Funeral services for 47 year-old Steven Rudder, who has many family members in Bond County, will be Saturday December 12^th at 1PM at the Zieren Day Funeral Home in Carlyle. Visitation will be Friday from 4-8PM and Saturday from 9am until time of service at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the First Missionary Baptist Church.
