A WHITE MORNING FOR BOND COUNTY

Bond and the surrounding counties woke to a white morning today.  A possible one or two inch accumulation is expected before the snow ends later Wednesday night.  The snow will be followed by very cold temperatures.  The cold front could plunge temperatures down into the single digits by the weekend, and the wind chill will likely dip below the zero mark.  Remember to stay inside as much as possible; when travel is necessary allow extra time and have supplies to stay warm in case you are stranded. 

CARLYLE LAKE WATER LEVELS RISE

Water levels at Carlyle Lake have risen after the recent heavy rainfalls. On Monday, December 28 the lake level was almost at 452 feet. The higher water level has impacted recreation areas and boat ramps around Carlyle Lake. Many boat ramps are closed along with some fishing piers. Below the dam, the General Dean recreation area and the boat ramp downstream are closed. In addition, motorists should use caution when driving in low-lying areas around the lake. ROADSIDE SAFETY CHECKS

According to Illinois State Police District 11 Commander Jerry Culp, roadside safety checks will be conducted during this holiday season and the month of January in Bond, Clinton, Madison St. Clair and Monroe Counties. These safety checks encourage motorists to not drink and drive and if they do drink, to keep their consumption of alcohol within allowable limits or designate a sober driver. The probability for alcohol related parties and activities increases during the holiday season and thus the chance to become impaired also increases. Remember, do not drink and drive.

ILLINOIS GOVERNOR NAMES PROGRAM LEAD

Governor Pat Quinn has named Judge David A. Erickson to lead a comprehensive review of the Department of Correction’s Meritorious Good Time program. The program was suspended recently pending a comprehensive evaluation. Following a thorough review, Erickson will present a report to the Governor. The goals of the review include creating policies and procedures to make sure that public safety is always the first concern, and maintaining the integrity of the criminal justice system.
