EDWARDSVILLE MAN DIES IN FIERY CRASH

 

An Edwardsville man was killed early Saturday morning in a fiery crash south of Hamel. According to a spokesperson with the Illinois State Police, Gabriel Patton age 28 of Edwardsville was driving northbound on route 157 in a 1999 Volkswagon Jetta south of Hamel when around 2am, he lost control of his car near Quercus Grove Road. The Jetta left the roadway, struck a culvert, overturned coming to rest on it's hood. The vehicle then ignited and was fully engulfed in flames when rescuers arrived. Patton was pronounced dead at the scene and the Illinois State Police are continuing their investigation as to the cause of the crash. sdc'

 

NEW BADEN MAN CHARGED WITH SEXUAL ASSAULT OF CHILDREN

 

A New Baden man has been charged with allegedly sexually assaulting two children. According to Clinton County State's Attorney John Hudspeth, Brian Norbeck, age 33, of New Baden, has been charged with four counts of alleged predatory criminal sexual assault of a child. Norbeck allegedly assaulted two children, under the age of 13. These charges are a class X felony and if Norbeck is found guilty on all four charges, he faces a sentence of mandatory natural life in prison. Norbeck is currently being held in the Clinton County Jail on $250,000 bond. His next court appearance is Wednesday, January 13th . ACCIDENT SENDS GREENVILLE WOMAN TO ST. LOUIS HOSPITAL

 

A single-car accident sent a Greenville woman to Greenville Regional Hospital then on to Barnes Jewish Hospital by helicopter, new years morning around 5:55 a.m.  According to the accident report, 26 year-old Casondra Griffin was driving on Millersburg Road when her vehicle left the west side of the roadway. Griffin allegedly over-corrected back to the east side of the road and lost control. Her vehicle struck a road embankment, rolled at least once and came to rest on the driver’s side.  Griffin was transported to Greenville Regional Hospital and later arched to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis with serious injuries. 


FIRE BURNS KEYESTONE TRAILER

 

Grantfork Firemen were called to a construction trailer fire Thursday morning, on Bauman Road between Pocahontas and I-70.  According to Fire Chief Kevin Rutz, the trailer was being used as offices by the Keystone Pipeline workers and was fully involved when the fireman arrived, just before 6:00 a.m.  The cause of the fire is undetermined and there were no injuries.  A person living nearby called in the fire.  The trailer was a complete loss and firemen were on the scene for about an hour.

Carl E. Weiss age 75 of Highland passed away Wednesday, December 30th at Willow Creek Nursing Center in Belleville. Private services will be held for 75 year-old Carl Weiss. Memorials may be made to American Legion Baseball in Highland or to Highland Lodge 583 A.F.&A.M.
