TROY ILLINOIS SOLDIER DIES IN AFGHANISTAN

A Troy man was killed in Afghanistan on January the 3^rd. According to a press release on the Department of Defense website, 24 year old Brad Smith was killed by a road side bomb near Kandahar Airfield. Smith was part of the 10^th Air Support Operations Squadron based in Fort Riley Kansas. Few other details of the attack have been released by the Department of Defense, but the same attack apparently killed 3 other US soldiers. While funeral arrangements are not complete for Brad Smith they will be at the Herr Funeral Home in Collinsville.

BOND COUNTY BOARD TO MEET FOR FIRST TIME IN 2010

The Bond County Board is set to meet for the first time in 2010 this morning at 10:00 a.m. at the courthouse. Items on the agenda include the Shoal Creek Fire Protection District's request for an older ambulance the county will be replacing, the circuit clerk’s report and the meeting schedule for 2010. DECEMBER AND 2009 PRECIPITATION TOTALS FOR GREENVILLE

Average rain totals for December in Greenville were the fifth highest of all months in 2009 with 5.56 inches. October was the wettest month with more than thirteen inches of rain followed by April, May, and July. Greenville also received 5.25 inches of snow in December. Total average rainfall for 2009 was 57.79 inches, about two inches less than in 2008, ranking the year second in total rainfall of the past ten years.

Eldon W. Bloemker, age 72, of Greenville, passed away Monday, January 4 at Fair Oaks Nursing Home. Bertha B. "Tex" Smith, age 84, of Greenville, passed away Sunday, January 3 at Greenville Regional Hospital. Funeral services for 84 year-old Bertha "Tex" Smith will be Wednesday, at 11:00 a.m. at Young Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will be in Wisetown Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Helia Healthcare Activities Department.

EVELYN VON HATTEN

Evelyn "Vell" Von Hatten, age 65, of Highland, passed away Thursday, December 31 at Highland Health Care Center. There are no services planned for 65 year-old Evelyn "Vell" Von Hatten and there is no visitation.

Joseph G. Korte, age 91, of Highland, passed away Monday, January 4 at Faith Care Center in Highland. Funeral services for 91 year-old Joseph Korte will be Wednesday, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Highland. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. at Spengel Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland. Memorials may be made to Special Olympics or to the St. Paul Education Foundation.

Leona Hoffmann, age 96, of Trenton, passed away Sunday, January 3 at Mar-ka Nursing Home in Mascoutah. Funeral services for 96 year-old Leona Hoffmann will be Wednesday, at 10:00 a.m. at St. John United Church of Christ in Trenton. Interment will be in Trenton Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. at the church. Memorials may be made to St. John United Church of Christ in Trenton.
