SMITHBORO FIREMEN CALLED OUT TO ROYAL LAKE

 

Smithboro Firemen were called to Royal Lake early Monday afternoon. According to First Assistant Fire Chief Dale Sarginson, around 1:00 p.m. someone was using a heater at the First Missionary Baptist Church to thaw out pipes. Later they smelled smoke and Smithboro Firemen were called. Upon arrival, it was determined that someone had put snow on the plywood that was smoking and that stopped the smoking. Firemen left the scene but were called back 45 minutes later because of the smell of smoke. Much more snow was put on the plywood and firemen left the scene.


ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT ARRESTED IN CARLYLE

 

Carlyle Police arrested an armed robbery suspect minutes after a robbery in Carlyle. According to Carlyle Police Chief Kent Newkirk, a Missouri man, Michael Guess of St. Louis, allegedly robbed the CC Food Mart on Route 127 in Carlyle, early Tuesday, January 5 around 2:40 a.m. Guess allegedly used an eight inch long knife in the robbery. He was arrested about five minutes later driving a Chevy Corsica and leaving the Carlyle High School parking lot. Police found around $300 in cash in Guess's vehicle. Guess allegedly robbed the CC Food Mart in New Baden earlier that morning. Guess has been charged in Clinton County with aggravated robbery and armed violence. He is currently being held in the Clinton County Jail on a $250,000 bond.

 


GREENVILLE REGIONAL HOSPITAL WELCOMES NEW YEAR'S BABY

 

Aurora Alisarie Richard was born at 3:55 p.m. Saturday, January 2, making her the first baby born in 2010 at the Greenville Regional Hospital Family Birth Center.  Aurora weighed 7 pounds, 14 ounces and measured 18 inches in length.  The proud parents are Brittani and Patrick Richard, of Highland.  As is the tradition, the first baby born during the new year at Greenville Regional Hospital was welcomed with a variety of gifts for her and her parents from area businesses.

Joseph W. Paubel, age 92, of St. Louis, MO, passed away Sunday, January 10 at his residence.  Funeral arrangements for 92 year-old Joseph Paubel are incomplete at the Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland.

 

DANA R. HOLSTON, JR.

 

Dana R. Holston, Jr., age 32, of rural Pocahontas, formerly of Caseyville, passed away early Saturday morning near Marion, IL.  Funeral arrangements for 32 year-old Dana Holston are incomplete at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville.
