ACCIDENT ON MULBERRY GROVE ROAD WITH INJURIES

 

Bond County Sheriff's Officers responded to an accident Wednesday morning on Mulberry Grove Road. According to the accident report, around 8:00 a.m., Jenna Olson, age 17, of Vandalia, driving a 1999 Chevy CZ2, was southbound on Mulberry Grove Road near Lake Henry Road when she said a northbound vehicle was in her lane and she swerved to avoid a collision. Olson then lost control of her car, crossed the road and struck a tree. Olson was taken to Greenville Regional Hospital.

FIELD FIRE IN ROYAL LAKE

 

Smithboro Firemen were called to a report of a field fire Wednesday afternoon around 1:30 p.m. in Royal Lake. Upon arrival, it was determined to be a small controlled burn. Firemen advised the resident to keep an eye on the fire and then left. They were on the scene for about five minutes.

UNIT 2 SCHOOL BOARD CLOSED SESSION MEETING

 

The Unit 2 School Board met in closed session Monday night. Following the closed session, the board approved the hiring of Carl Brannon as the high school boys tennis coach, Mark Turok as a van driver, and the job posting for a speech language pathologist.

ALHAMBRA WOMEN CHARGED

 

An Alhambra woman has been charged in Madison County with financial exploitation of an elderly person. According to a press release from the Madison County Sheriff's office, Meredith Sharp, age 47, of Alhambra, was employed by Hitz Memorial Home in Alhambra. While there, Sharp allegedly used a resident's credit card and made several purchases. Sharp also allegedly forged the resident's signature to remove money from at least two different bank accounts. The total amount taken under fraudulent circumstances totals over $16,000. Sharp, also wanted on an outstanding warrant, was taken into custody January 15 and bond was set at $75,000. An investigation into Sharp's activities while she was at the nursing home continues.

WILLIAM THOMAS

 

William Maxwell "Butch" Thomas, age 67, of Greenville, passed away Tuesday, January 26 at his residence. Funeral services for 67 year-old William "Butch" Thomas will be Saturday, at 11:00 a.m. at Meridith Funeral Home in Pocahontas. Burial will in Hug Cemetery in Millersburg with full military honors. Visitation will be Friday, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, from 8:00 - 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home .
