All three measuring stations showed a total of five inches of snow as of 6:00 o'clock this morning.


 

ILLINOIS BUDGET PUSHED BACK

Administrators of cash-strapped state institutions in the metro-east will have to wait a few extra weeks to learn what next year's budget may bring.  The state house approved a bill Thursday that would allow Governor Pat Quinn three extra weeks to prepare his annual budget address, moving it from February 17 to March 10.  The bill, which the governor has already signed, will also put the 2010 and 2011 budgets online.  The bill doesn't extend the amount of time the legislature has to approve the budget.

BRADFORD NATIONAL BANK TO AWARD FOUR SCHOLARSHIPS

 

Bradford National Bank will award four $1,000.00 scholarships in 2010, one each to a graduating senior at Greenville, Mulberry Grove, Highland, and Triad High Schools. Bank President Frank Joy said, "We are pleased to offer these scholarships to graduating seniors". Guidelines and applications are available at any Bradford Bank location or at www.BradfordBank.com.  Highland and Triad students must have applications to their guidance offices by April 15.  May 1 is the deadline for Greenville and Mulberry Grove students.

WEATHER SPOTTER TRAINING SCHEDULED

 

Tornado season is not far away and Bond County 911 Director Alan Davis has scheduled a weather spotter training event for Tuesday, February 23 at 6:30 p.m., at the Greenville Firehouse.  National Weather Service personnel will present the training session and it is open to the public.  Everyone is welcome.

GRANTS FOR LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENTS

 

The Illinois State Fire Marshall has announced that $2 million dollars in grants are now available to help fire departments across the state purchase small equipment and protective clothing that will enable them to better serve their communities. Fire protection districts and township fire departments may apply for grants of up to $26,000 to purchase items such as turnout coats, firefighting tools and extrication equipment. Only fire departments maintained by a local unit of government to provide fire suppression whithin a geographical area are eligible for the program.

 

 


 

CERTIFIED ATHLETIC TRAINER JOINS GRH TEAM

 

 

Greenville Regional Hospital has recently welcomed Certified Athletic Trainer Keri Currier to the sports medicine team. Currier will provide immediate care to athletes and refers serious injuries to physical therapist Doug Merrell, the manager of the Greenville Regional Hospital Rehabilitation Services Department. Currier works with coaches and parents as part of the follow-up, making recommendations as to proper courses of treatment. Sports Medicine services at Greenville Regional Hospital area available to active individual, including both competitive and recreational athletes.

GREENVILLE COLLEGE HOSTS "HOOPS FOR HAITI"

 

Greenville College is hosting a fundraising event called "Hoops for Haiti" during the men's and women's basketball games against Blackburn College, Wednesday, February 17 beginning at 6:00 p.m.  "Hoops for Haiti" T-shirts will be available and donations will be accepted at the door, throughout both games and during creative time-out activities.  For more information, call 664-6512.

VADA GUITHUES    

 

Vada Guithues, age 96, of Salem and Waterloo, passed away Saturday, February 13 at Fair Oaks Nursing Home.  Funeral service will be Wednesday, at 1:30 p.m. at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville.  Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Belleville.  Friends may call Wednesday, from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to Bond County Hospice or to the Alzheimer's foundation.

Elsie Marie File, age 91, of Hillsboro, passed away Friday, February 12 at Montgomery Health Care Center. Funeral services will be Tuesday, at 11:30 a.m. at Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday, from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Memorials ares suggested to Union Grove Cemetery.
