WEATHER MAKES IT A BUSY DAY FOR ILLINOIS STATE POLICE

 

From Sunday morning until Monday morning, Illinois State Police from District 11 in Collinsville handled 78 crashes and more than 125 weather related calls. State police remind you to watch bridges, overpasses, and exit and entrance ramps. They suggest if you are traveling make sure you have a full tank of gas, a fully charged cell phone and a blanket in your car.


SEMI FENDER BENDER

 

Greenville Police responded to an accident Monday morning at Love's Truck Stop on Route 127. According to the accident report, a semi-truck was leaving the parking lot but stopped at an intersection. Another semi-truck behind him could not stop in time and struck the vehicle from behind. No injuries were reported but damages were estimated at more than $1,500.


NINE MAILBOXES DAMAGED

 

Highland Police are investigating reports of damage to mailboxes on Easy Street, St. Michael Court, St. Raphael Court, and Paradise Drive.  Eight calls were received Saturday morning and a ninth call Saturday afternoon.


HEALTH OCCUPATIONS APTITUDE TEST GIVEN AT KASKASKIA COLLEGE

 

A Health Occupations Aptitude Test will be administered Friday, February 19 at 9:00 a.m. and again at 1:00 p.m. on the Kaskaskia College main campus.  Students interested in applying for the medical laboratory technician, occupational therapy assistant, surgical technology, or veterinary technician programs must take this test before being admitted to these programs.  There is a fee of $20.00 to take the test and you must pre-register.  To register or for more information, call 545-3053.

RICHARD BARRON

 

Richard B. "Dick" Barron, age 78, of Highland, passed away Sunday, February 14 at his residence. Funeral services for 78 year-old Richard "Dick" Barron will be Wednesday, at 7:00 p.m. at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland. There will be a private burial with full military honors. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or the Alzheimer's Association.

 

MARIE HEMKER

 

Marie M. Hemker, age 85, of Bartelso, passed away Monday, February 15 at her residence. A funeral Mass of Christian burial for 85 year-old Marie Hemker will be Thursday, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Bartelso. Burial will be in St. Cecelia Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, from 11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at Moss Funeral Home in Germantown. Memorials may be made to St. Cecelia Church or to Hospice of Southern Illinois.

 

LENORE FREY

 

Lenore L. "Babe" Frey, age 93, of Highland, passed away Sunday, February 14 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Highland. Funeral services for 93 year-old Lenore "Babe" Frey will be Friday, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. and Friday, from 8:00 - 9:30 a.m. at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland. Memorials may be made to Faith Countryside Homes, V.F.W. Auxiliary Post #5694 or in the form of Masses.
