BOND COUNTY LANDFILL TO STOP ACCEPTING WASTE MARCH 31

 

The Bond County Landfill in Greenville will cease regular operations March 31, 2010.  Eric Brenner, general manager of the landfill said, "The Bond County Landfill has served the area well for the past 30 years.  A the end of March, we will cease regular operations and begin the closure process at the site."  Waste will be diverted to the Litchfield-Hillsboro Landfill in Litchfield and the Roxana Landfill in Edwardsville.  The Bond County Landfill will be capped with a clay and synthetic liner system.  The cap will then be covered with soil and grass.  Permanent closure will take approximately two years.

FS OPEN HOUSE

 

All the grand openings downtown Saturday were complimented by a huge open house at FS in Greenville. We talked with Roger Marcoot about the opening. He said he was overwhelmed with the great turnout and he was excited about expanding the product line with a lot more pet food. He said Mark Gooding from Goodies Pet and Feed has joined FS and has been there for the past two months.

JOINT CELEBRATION THIS SUMMER IN POCAHONTAS

 

The Village of Pocahontas and the Pocahontas Fire Department is celebrating Pokey 2010 this summer. The Village of Pocahontas will celebrate their Quartoseptcentennial, which is 175 years, and the Pocahontas Fire Department will celebrate their Sesquicentennial, which is 150 years, July 9, 10 and 11. There will be fireworks Sunday evening and four local bands will play that weekend. An antique tractor show, a civil war reenactment, and craft show are planned. Carnival rides, and food and drinks will be available. Volunteers are still needed. For a list of activities for Pokey 2010 or to volunteer, go to the web site www.pokey2010.com.

LADY COMETS SOCCER

 

The Lady Comets fell in their home opener to EAWR 2-1. The Oilers 
out shot the Comets 21-2, with Joni Hoag keeping the game close, 
recording 11 saves in goal.

MINA CUNNINGHAM ABRAMS

 

Mina Cunningham Abrams, age 98, of Greenville, passed away Tuesday, March 23 at Helia Healthcare.  Funeral services for 98 year-old Mina Abrams will be Saturday, at 1:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home in Greenville.  Burial will be in Reno Bethel Cemetery.  Friends may call Saturday, after 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to Reno Bethel Cemetery or Helia Healthcare.
