ICC CUTS ILLINOIS AMERICAN WATER RATE REQUEST

In May 2009, Illinois America Water Company filed a request with the Illinois Commerce Commission seeking authorization to increase rates generating $61 million in new revenue.  Illinois American Water Company provides service to 317,000 customers from southern Illinois to the Chicago suburbs. The ICC voted recently to cut more than $19.6 million from that request.  The commission adopted a lower overall cost of capital than the company requested, cut estimated income tax expenses, reduced estimated rate case expenses and service fees, and directed a reduction in Chicago Metro district private fire protection charges.  The ICC decision followed an eleven month financial evaluation of the company proposal.
