MAY 1 OPENING DAY FOR “LIL” RED BARN MUSEUM

 

Come out to the Farm Heritage Museum grounds Saturday, May 1 for the opening of the “Lil” Red Barn Museum.  The museum will be open from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. with new items to see.  There will be free refreshments, you may view the Heritage Saw Mill and the Heritage Train may be running.  The museum, located south of I-70 just off Rt. 127 on Museum Avenue, will be open Saturdays through October.  For more information, call Michelle at 618-488-7758.


CRIME VICTIM AND WITNESS NOTIFICATION

 

The Crime Victim and Witness Notification Advisory Committee was created in 1999 to assist the Illinois Attorney General in the use of the Illinois AVN System.  This committee evaluates the operation of the system and reports its activity and status each year. The current system is a toll-free bilingual service that provides custody and case status to victims, witnesses, family members, and the public and is available 24 hours a day seven days a week. The AVN is also a resource to assist law enforcement, prosecutors, and court personnel. To register for the Illinois AVN system, call 1-866-5-notify or register online at www.vinelink.com.

PROSECUTOR BASED VICTIM/WITNESS PROGRAM QUARTERLY REPORT

 

Bond County State’s Attorney Chris Bauer has released the Prosecutor Based Victim/Witness Program Quarterly Report for the period January 1, – March 31, 2010.  According to the report, thirty new clients received services this quarter in the areas of assault, crimes against a child: sexual assault, domestic violence, driving under the influence, elder abuse, and sexual assault or abuse.  Advocacy services in the areas of medical, social service, and court advocacy were provided to 35 new and ongoing clients and 178 new and ongoing clients received assistance services.


WORDART CREATIVE EXPRESSIONS WORKSHOP

 

The University of Illinois Bond Unit is offering a “WordArt Creative Expressions” workshop Saturday, April 24, from 10:00 a.m. – noon, at the Farm Bureau meeting room in Greenville.  Youth ages 8 – 18 will design and create unique works of art in the form of personalized refrigerator magnets.  The cost to participate is $3.00 and all supplies will be provided.  To reserve your seat, call the U of I Extension office at 664-3665.

OUTDOOR FITNESS TRAIL AT CARLYLE LAKE

 

If you are looking for a place to get fit outdoors, the Willow Pond Fitness Trail south of the Carlyle Lake Visitor Center offers a unique outdoor fitness opportunity.  The concreted trail is 1/5 of a mile long, encompassing an old farm pond with six exercise stations to build strength and stamina.  For more information on the trail, call the Carlyle Lake Project Office at 618-594-2484.

SUSANNE MICHELS

 

Susanne L. Michels, age 48, of Greenville, passed away Monday, April 19 at her home. Graveside services for 48 year-old Susanne Michels will be Thursday, at 12:30 p.m. at Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia. Visitation will be Thursday, from 10:00 a.m. to noon at Young Funeral Home in Greenville. Memorials may be made to the family.
