TRUCK ACCIDENT ON SORENTO AVENUE
More information has become available on the truck accident that sent three people from the scene to the hospital by helicopter last Saturday at 3:46 p.m. on Sorento Avenue. According to the accident report, Mark A. Elkins, age 33, of Vandalia, was eastbound on Sorento Avenue in a 1988 Ford pick-up truck when the truck ran across the westbound traffic lane into the left ditch. The truck traveled 153 feet through the ditch before striking a culvert at the intersection of Hastings Cemetery Road. Elkins was transported by ARCH helicopter to St. Louis University Hospital and 8 year old Mark Elkins and 5 year old Brodie Elkins were both transported by helicopter to Cardinal Glennon Hospital in St. Louis.

WATER RATE HIKE COMING
Customers of Bond Madison Water Company will see an increase in their water bill starting June 1. According to a press release, Bond Madison Water Company increased their rates by 27.5% starting April 23 and these increases will be reflected on the June 1 bill. Since Bond Madison is a “sale for resale” company, they were levied a higher increase in rates than Illinois American’s residential class. The minimum bill is now $30.00 with each 1,000 gallons used costing $6.57 up to 25,000 gallons.

ILLINOIS PRINCIPALS ASSOCIATION ELECTS NEW OFFICERS
At the recent recognition banquet of the Illinois Principals Association Kaskaskia Region, new officers were elected and some local persons were chosen to serve for 2011. Gary Brauns is the new State Director, Bill Carpenter is Region Director Elect, Retired Principal Chair is Mike O’Boyle, and Eric Swingler is the Hospitality Chair.
