CELEBRITY PIE AUCTION STARTS ON MONDAY

 

The WGEL Celebrity Pie Auction begins Monday, May 24 with coaches Cantrill and Hutchinson at 6:30 a.m., Pocahontas Principle Eric Swingler at 7:00, Bond County Treasurer Katie Weiss at 7:30, Ryan Mifflin from Greenville Regional Hospital at 8:00, Randy Alderman from Bradford National Bank at 8:30, and FCI Warden Audi Sherrod at 9:00. Please tune in and help raise money for the Bond County Relay for Life.


CARLYLE LAKE TO HOST TRIATHLON

 

There will be a triathlon at Carlyle Lake Sunday, May 23 starting at 9:00 a.m. in the Dam West Day Use Area.  Beginners and advanced entrants will compete in a timed swim, run, and bike course.  The bike course will include Clinton and Bond County roads and Lake Road, adjacent to the Dam West Recreation Area, will be temporarily closed from 6:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. due to the number of participants and public safety.  For more information on the triathlon, call 618-594-2484.

STROKE AWARENESS PROGRAM AT GREENVILLE REGIONAL HOSPITAL

 

May is National Stroke Awareness Month and Greenville Regional Hospital, the Bond County Health Department and the Illinois Department of Public Health are partnering to present “Stroke Awareness & Risk Management,” a free community education event.  The program will be in two sessions Thursday, May 27 in the hospital’s community room.  The first session will be from 8:00 – 10:00 a.m. and the second from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.  Pre-registration is required.  For more information or to register for the program, call 664-1442, ext. 134.

MAY FARM HERITAGE MUSEUM

 

The May Farm Heritage Museum meeting was Tuesday night. Oliver Schaefer reminded everyone of upcoming events. The first event on the schedule is the Tractor Drive scheduled for June 12. Galen Peters said the tractors would be leaving the museum at 9:00 a.m. and the drive should last about two hours.

 

Schaefer talked about the auction that Aumann Auctions will be holding June 18-19. The Buchheit store will be displaying tractors outside their store on the 19th in conjunction with the auction and customer appreciation days.

 

Michelle McEvers reported on the success of the “Little Red Barn”. There have been quite a few out-of-town visitors and hopes are for even more with the upcoming events. The Little Red Barn is open every Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. through October.

 

Ollie Schaefer encouraged everyone to tune into WGEL Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday next week for the Great Celebrity Pie Auction benefiting the Relay for Life. Schaefer will be one of the celebrities for this auction.



KASKASKIA COLLEGE KICK PROGRAMS AT VANDALIA CAMPUS

 

Kaskaskia College is offering six KICK courses at the Vandalia Campus in June.  "Kids in the Kitchen" will be Monday through Thursday, June 7-10 from 9:00 a.m. – noon, "Computers for Children I" is Monday and Tuesday, June 14-15 from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m., "It’s a Bug Life" will be Fridays, June 18 and 25 from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m., "Exploring the Great Outdoors" is also Fridays, June 18 and 25, from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m., "Digital Photo" will be Monday through Thursday, June 21-24 from 10:00 a.m. – noon, and "Baseball Camp" is Monday through Thursday, June 28-July 1 from 9:00 a.m. – noon.  To register or for more information, call 545-3447.
