ANOTHER HUGE SUCCESS IN THE 2010 RELAY FOR LIFE

It was the culmination of all the fund raisers, the BBQ's, the pie auction and the year long efforts of dozens if not hundreds of people.  The Bond County Relay for Life was this last Friday night till Saturday morning and a large crowd gathered at the Bond County Fair Grounds.  The unofficial total of money raised for the 2010 relay was over $61,000, and donations are still being made and counted. The goal of the relay for 2010 was $60,000, and that amount has been reached and passed

CITY BUDGET MEETING

Due to threatened reductions in reimbursement formulas of income taxes to City’s by the Sate of Illinois, and slow payment of tax funds from the State, the City of Greenville finds itself in the same boat as most Illinois Municipalities as they attempt to balance the upcoming 2010-2011 budget.

At a recent special meeting, the City Council struggled again with making cuts in spending. One of the options the City has is to transfer approximately 180 thousand dollars from the well healed downtown TIF district to the City’s General Fund. That would leave about 60 thousand in spending cut to make the budget balance.

City Manager Dave Willey promised the Council a balanced budget by next Tuesday’s regular June meeting and Mayor Alan Gaffner told the Council he would call a special meeting if need be to pass the budget before the July 1st deadline.
